What's wrong with you guys? Just because all of the main baddies are dead doesn't mean that the story is over. They could easily make a new MP with a new story and everything, look at the Mortal Kombat games. Sure you killed Shang Tsung and Goro, the main baddies of the first MK, but looky here, more baddies in MK2, Shao Khan and Kintaro. The next MP could have Max and Mona running from new enemies who were comrades of Vlad, or MP3 could start fresh and just drop all the Noir nonsence. I'd love to play a game of MP that didn't try to jerk tears out of you all the time and instead just let you really lay down the law. It'd be cool to play a Max Payne with a whole new sandbox oriented gameplay. I know that's taking from GTA but who cares. I'd love to bust into random crack houses or gang bases with slowmo and take out criminals with no problem. With an open ended fully recreated New York City to run around in with bullettime, the possibilites are endless. And with the way Max Payne is played, I think it would definitely have an edge over any of the recent sandbox games like GTA or TrueCrime. I mean kicking @ss in MP is way more fun then doing it in GTA or TrueCrime especially after adding in gunkata or kungfu. You gotta admit that.

GTA = Big but just a game (for the politically incorrect *lol*)
Matrix = Big and fanatical (for fanboys of anime & Hong Kong wire action)
Max Payne = Small (for fanboys of graphic novels & Hong Kong wire action?)
As a publisher/distributor - where would you put your money? |

ok ok, I know what your all thinking, 'ooooh its n00bie and his first post, lets just ignore him unless he says something we can blam to hell.'
I just wanted to say that from what i know, Remedy used the same game engine from MP1 in MP2, it was just Heavly tweaked and spit polished, that is the reason that there wasent any model dismemberment or bullet holes or anything particularly revolutionary, except for the fact that they can take a game engine from way back in the year of 2000, and tweek it for a couple of months and make it passable in the time that it was released. ya know what i mean?
(just, before my next comment, 'Violent-Games' man, i love your work and i think you are a very mature poster on the fourms, but...)
I think that the story is the main thing that make the Max Payne Games differ from the rest, not the guns and bullet-time. The way that it really makes you want to find out what happens next. The Movie style story telling, infused with the graphic novel, that is what made the games origional.
So what if it dident make as much money as they hoped it would? There are pleanty of games there that dident sell well because of some pethetic reason, but are real quality games.
(Arx Fatalis, for being too different. No One Lives Forever 2, i have no idea why this game dident sell good, it really had everything... really)
also Sam Lake is an awsome noir writer, but there are others better than him out there. So I am not really worried about Remedy not makeing MP3, its just whoever does make it better pick a good writer. Maby even a professional book Author? Matthew Reily anyone?
ANYWAY
Onto the next thing about not being able to make a prequal. It would be possible, I mean, why cant he have a nemiseis back in the 1980's? Ive allwase had this fantacy that Max and Tommy Vercetti (GTA:VC) go head to head in battle. And whats stopping the writer, weather it be Sam Lake or a new one, from doing both a prequel and a sequel at the same time? Maby Maxes Past is catching up to him? Know what i mean?
Thats enough from me for now, i have to stop myself before i start babbaling on. |

what i'd like to see im MP 3 is at some point the past tence stops ant the rest of the game is in real time. like the last three levels. aslo i wouldn't mind it if max died, but maniged to take out every last enemy in the process. another race agenst time level but at the very last second max doesn't make it. |

Max can't die, then the first 2 games would be a big watse of my time. My hero has to live in the end of all of his stories. Killing him would be a disaster. But I like your train of thought, it's very original.
And by the way, very well put Thief. I see your points clearly and thanks for the compliment.

I want to see..
-A full damage model so you can blow out chunks of the ragdoll and it will move realisticly, the ability to skewer ragdolls on things.
-Ragdoll collisions
-better melee attacks (not kungfu but realistic kicks and punches)
-more interactive enviroments (blow a hole in any wall or set a tactical fire that sweeps throught the room trapping the AI)
-a huge selection of weapons but less weapon slots
-perhaps a more agile charactor that can run walls and kungfu as a tribute to K.young
seriously tho, the only game with ragdolls you can blow apart is f.e.a.r find me another one and ill but it |

FEAR does have that feature, but really it's not that good. You can't blow off someone one's leg at the kneecap with a shotgun, you can only take off an arm every now and then with bombs. I never saw anyting overtly gory like SOF2. That would be a great feature. And Max should have more agile moves like climbing and dangling. Nothing to Prince of Persia, just cop-like agile. Basically I want MP3 to be the most realistic game to date. I want specific animations for every action, destructible ragdoll physics for characters, level models, and anything else that should have ragdoll physics, destructible backgrounds to make real craters and such with grenades, and so on. I want total realism. Everything needs to act as it should, I don't care if my framerate drops to 3, I want it. I was disappointed with HL2 when it came to this kind of stuff even though it pulled it off more then any other game to date, it just wasn't enough real for me. I want that in MP3.

I'd like a real sense of power in the weapons. I felt that in MP2 bullets had no impact and all they did was push ragdolls away in funny ways. I want guns that are loud and powerful and kill very easily, I wanted the pump action in MP2 to blow enemies backwards and have them smashing into walls but the Shotguns in MP2 (especially the sawn off) were way too weak. I wanted to bullets that go through stuff and that characters really react to. It would make the action more intense if bullets actually seemed DEADLY. I don't expect to see MP2 anytime soon but when it comes out it better be: More violent, A Prequel and you know just generally better |

My Violently Enhanced TC makes all of the bullets effect people as they should. Shotgun blasts push baddies good distances and pistol bursts drop them where they are. And all of the weapon sounds have been set to a very loud volume level. And some materials can be shot through aswell. Plus I added a danger radius to all of the bullets as they fly across rooms to make enemies react and move out of their way the best that they can. It really makes the game look a lot more lively during battle because you can see baddies moving around the room to find better cover from your bullets. Look out for my mod when it is released, I think you'll like it.
OK sorry, back on topic. Just had to promote a little.

i tell you what VG, you know in the unmodded MP2 where you shoot somone and they dont die, the horrible animation where they wave their arms comes up. and then you shoot them again and the ragdoll falls from that animation, and soon all of your enemies are falling in the same way.. You need to either swap the horrible standing 'shot' animation for the one when they are hit by your jump or a moving door or make it the same as pipeboy and keep really low HP so they fall from their walking/diving animations. |

I'm already way ahead of you man. I tweaked the damage scales for each body part to make the weapons kill people as they should. Which means, one or two beretta shots to the chest will kill pretty much anybody. So you never really see that hurt animation unless you hit them and they don't die. I really don't see the problem with that animation anyways, it looks fine to me. But like I said, I hardly ever see it anymore. People die like they should in my mod. And with some help, I've been able to incorporate a ragdoll physics system that rivals HalfLife 2's. Seriously.

Speaking about kungfu and ragdoll. I think it might be better to add that feature in Max Payne 3. Too bad that there has been no development on kungfu in Max Payne 2. Max Payne 1 with enemy kungfu MOD really hits the spot. It is almost like I see a different new game experience. I agree with wall jump. This feature has to be added. It will create a new thrill action for Max. Anyway, why don't the Max Payne developer use the same effect for bullet time as in the F.E.A.R ? It really rocks and cool. |
