You have to go into your Port Forwarding setup for your DSL router and allow port 7755 UDP, and 6667 UDP, I believe.
I don't know about you, but for me, I type in my computer's IP address in Internet Explorer and it comes up with my DSL setup page. Then I click on Advanced Setup, and Port Forwarding on the left.
Another cool thing is you can change your IP address just by making a letter in your ISP username upper or lower case.
i.e. username@qwest.net, change it to username@Qwest.net and your IP changes. |

Actually, I don't forward any ports. If your running a dedicated server, try using the Force Port: 7756. |

Yes some routers do allow port forwarding without manually doing it ... as for mine I can forward the port and people can join but it doesn't show up in the server list. To make it appear i need to set the DMZ which I just cannot find in my router GUI.

My router is supposed to have port fowarding but whenever I try to use it, it don't work. What I don't like is that I did not have to worry about this kind of thing with Halo or other older games except RF. HL2 is the biggest stiker when it comes to port forwarding. Untill I get a new router that utilises my full T1 speeds and actually does some real port forwarding, I aint happy. |

Ah welcome to my LINKSYS router world. Before I replace my last one, I didn't have to set the server PC to DMZ, but since this new router has new firmware, I do now or like you. I can ping my server, it will show up but, you can't ping it on UT2004.
nbnp all you need to do is make sure that you forward port 7755 and that it is UDP. No other port is require to be open. A good place to go and find out how to open a port in various routers is here:
Portforward.com
The only time I have seen where people can't open a port for the game has been on a wireless router but that most be due to extra security features added and active. I for one would never use a wireless router. Hard wire is the way to go when hosting any game.

LordSeafood, I use a 2Wire HomePortal(Modem/Router) which has been recently plugged into a LinkSys Wireless-G w/SpeedBooster wireless router, type, WRT54GS. Now I am receiving port issues... Which I am going to need to open the port I want for a server for a game. But since going wireless, dedi servers must be run via port forwarding via router.
With the wired 2Wire connected only, I had no need for port forwarding.. lol |

I have one question to ask for those using LinkSys. I opened ports 7755-7756 on 192.168.2.1(router ip) and clicked the enable button. I also enabled DMZ on 192.168.2.1. Should I be able to run my dedi servers now on port 7756? I tested this earlier without DMZ enabled and McBane said he couldn't find it, as well as another peep.
So now it should work with DMZ enabled, etc., etc.? |

Ah your welcome. Just one question, what were you doing wrong, this way others can benefit from your experience.

That's the way I have mine set up. But for Red Faction I don't ever recall having to enable DMZ on the server PC. Only for UT2004, then again I don't know since it's been a while since I bought the router and I was already hosting a VCTF UT2004 server. |

Hey all, I see the solution on this but its STILL not working for me. I have the Linksys Router (WRT54GS), I have ports 80 and 7755 enabled for both UDP and TCP in my router IP (192.168.1.100). I also have enabled DMZ for the same Router IP, based on NoClanFranks advice. But yet, my Server will NOT show up on the Server list. I do not have Port Triggering Enabled as I believe I dont need it. Does anyone have any suggestions before I get a shotgun?

to make things a little easier on you, all I had to do is to port forward 7755 as a UDP. Here is an image to illustrate what to do.
