Well I downloaded the MaxTools for Max Payne 2 and I want to start making my own little mod. So far, the only tool that's kinda easy to use is the ParticleFX and im currently using it. Do any of you know how to upload them so I can try them while playing on Max payne 2? Sry if this question is stupid lol...I'm just tired of people begging for release dates on HoM and stuff. |

MaxED 2.0?
yeah its in there...its the mapping/level editing tool...basically the foundation/base program.
It's just a revamped version of MaxED for MP1...did you ever use that?? Its really not that difficult at all.
on the Max Payne 2 website they have tutorials and example levels and what not i think...they were pretty helpful for me...
**Disclaimer**:
I am not what you would consider to be a "pro" modder...i dont really have theh time to commit to it...
but i am familiar with the basics of it, and i make fun little projects for my own and my friends' personal enjoyment...
so feel free to ignore me..haha
I'm still impressed you found ParticleFX to be easy, it is beyond me to figure out...
when i first saw Equilibrium, i wondered about making a MOD based off of it...so i went into Particle FX to see if i could vaguely re-create the tetragrammaton-esque muzzle-flash...
...all i got was confused...
so i dropped the idea like a hot phosphorous grenade...
...luckily there was already a mod based on the movie in the works...
Moral:
If you can't figure it out...somebody else can, so either find them, just move on to something else.

He's not asking about MaxEd. He's asking about the Particle Fx program.
And a wallpaper made from a screenshot, that's not helping the community. You need to learn how to code, map, or develop sounds, FX, models, skins, or animations to help the community out. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but seriously, you're not helping this communtiy out by making wallpapers. It sounds like you're trying to take the easy way out. We need developers of mod materials. Anything you can grasp a little should be worked on until you get it right.
The exporter is located in the file menu at the top of the Particle FX program. The command is Export Runtime Data. It's very very easy to use the Particle Fx Program. But you're gonna have to learn how to setup Particle fx scripts and folders and how to call on them through decals or projectiles or character skins. I figured this out all on my own. I didn't use any tutorial whatsoever. I'm not a mapper so I don't know how to spawn Fx through the map. But I can do anything outside of mapping. Anything.
You need to do a lot of trial and error. Just make stuff up and test every tool in the program. See what they do. Learn what they do. Just keep trying and you will succeed. Open up an existing effect and just mess around with it. That's the only way you'll every learn to use any kind of PC program. Bottom line. It just takes time. When I first started I was so lost, but now I have 2 years of experience. Look at me now.

Sounds interesting
Alright ima go try to test out my stuff...but i have little patience so trial and error is not good for me lol.
Hey VG, is your mod a solo project or is it with a small group of people? |

Patience is what you'll need. If you don't have or cannot obtain this virtue, then you will never be able to mod.
I have been working on my mod for 2 years now all by myself. I have had some help from people here and there but I do not have a team. I only borrowed minor things from people every now and then and I got very little help only where I needed it. It's been mainly just me, which is just fine because I can do everything except model and map which are 2 things that I am not adding into my mod. I will be adding in some new models for weapons that I have borrowed from some people, but I will not be adding maps which is just perfect for my skills and the reason why I'm making this mod. I have all of the skills on my own to make this kind of mod workout. I've wanted to create something for MP2 on my own and that's what I've done.

The only thing I can do with mods is add new music to it. Oh and edit the textures of skins like with Paint Shop Pro. Oh and add sounds (I think). Oh and bugger them up and make them not work |

RASMAker needs to be accessed through the Windows command prompt. If you don't know anything about DOS, don't bother asking me about RASMAker. Instead download RASMAster. It's got a Windows interface and does not require any DOS knowledge. You can use it to view files inside of a ras or mp2m file and you can extract and create ras or mp2m files too.
As for the bullettime music thing, which I think sucks, you'll need to first unpack the data.ras file in the main MP2 directory. Really and truely you all need to download any tutorials that you can find that helps people learn the basics of MP modding. Because I don't have time to tell you everything step by step. See if you can unpack the ras files and get back with me. I'll then tell you where to go to add in music to the bullettime. Why do you guys like that feature? I find it to repetitive and annoying after a very short while.
