Stargate SG-1 MMO Announced
Posted Feb 2nd, 08:42pm by MrWizard
STARGATE WORLDS is the name of the game.

While fans were still reeling from the news of Stargate SG-1: Alliance's cancellation, license holder MGM and developer Cheyenne Mountain announced a new Stargate MMO, Stargate Worlds.

Apparently plans have been in the pipeline since September, 2005, for this "MMO that provides players with a form of exploration, adventure and ranged combat set in worlds of historical human time periods, alien environments, and outer space locations."

In the game, players will take on the roles of scientists and soldiers who "inhabit and vie for control over alien worlds. Local populations will shift their allegiance between the two alliances. Outside threats, such as the Ori, will conspire to further change the face of these worlds. Players will be able to tip the balance of power on these worlds, beating back the Ori invasion, and swaying the local populations to their side through quests, combat and trade. Whether you are a solitary explorer, master tradesman, or commander of a massive armed force - your every action will alter the worlds of the Stargate universe."

No release date has been suggested

More info to come...

This is the SG1 based game that I was always expecting. The SG1 'universe' is perfect for a MMO game... I was a little surprised when they announced a bog standard PC/Xbox/PS2 game which if following in the history of multi platform games would have been an ok game but nothing special.

I'd have still bought The Alliance anyway, too much of a SG fan not to...

I'm thinking an L4Y SG team will have to be formed

[edit]
In dev since Sept 2005 probably means we'll be lucky to see it next year. MMO games typically take a few years to roll out due to their depth...

I have heard rumours about this game for some time. I will get this game no matter how much it costs per month.

Garner, a L4Y team would be an excellent idea. I can be commander and you can be my right hand man

We'll all form a team. I'll be O'Neill, Garner can be Daniel and The_Doc can be Carter

Now we just need a hulking bald (or not so bald) guy to be Teal'c.

The question is, will there be a beta period, and who's palms do I have to grease with cash to get in on it?

Oh great. I get to be the geeky archeologist? At least Jackson has been trusted with a P90 for the last couple of seasons.. graduated from having a pistol after dying/ascending/decending a couple of times

Ok... you can be O'Neill Mr Wizard. Never seen again, only mentioned in passing and might as well be retired. I'll be Mitchell

The_Doc... Doctor Jackson...?

There are always beta periods for MMO's. Developers find it very hard to test their game designed to handle thousands of players online at once without thousands of players handy

What are you trying to say?

Yea, i'll be Doctor Jackson I sorta am a geeky guy with glasses

I hope the beta comes out soon. I'd have to download it at my dads/grandads as i only have a 512mb connection and most MMO betas are 2gb.

As I said above... I personally wouldn't expect to hear much about the game for the rest of the year... 6 months of game development isn't much time for more than research, concept work and a few coding foundations... unless of course they're using the game engine from Perception for Alliance which gives them a head start at least... still wouldn't expect anything until late next year at the earliest.

Yea true. I'm just glad that MGM gained a braincell and made the game that all Stargate fans wanted. Can't wait for the L4Y team

MrW are you English? Can't remember... would be handy as that way we are all in the same time zone, and thats handy when you play online games.

We just need a fourth member...

I already have my hair shaved. Its the 'cant be arsed' look. Perfect for the lazy IT professional who has trouble getting up in time in the morning before work and would rather have a wash/shower/eat something than spend 5 minutes taming the hair...

If it also helps, I have the black tactical kit plus P90 and the shoulder patches are on order...?

There's a group of SG fans that I go airsofting with. I always laughed in the past at people who dressed up as their TV show idols but when a group of 3-4 people run around as a team, all wearing the black tactical gear, with P90's and (once mine arrive) all with SG-14/SGC patches... its a good laugh

SG-14 are last mentioned in the series as KIA, hence we chose it. Its been reborn as the British SG team in our eyes

The_Doc, I'm from the US, but I play with plenty of folks across the pond in the MMO that I play.

Also, Garner, since Alliance is pretty much dead, should be change the name of the section and move it to the MMO section?

Hmm..I'm 2nd in Command...Since Garner wants to be Mitchell, I'll take Sheppard. Sure, he's on Atlantis, but hell, the games not SG-1 anymore, its Stargate Worlds. The Atlantis planet fits in there somewhere. Did they ever even name the planet that Atlantis is on?

And to go even further off topic, have you guys across the pond seen the end of the season for Atlantis? I was able to download them, but only them. usually I can get SG-1, Atlantis and Galactica, but not this year. anyway...end of the season looks awesome for Atlantis...two words...Ancient Warship

Season 2 of Altantis finished airing in Canada about a month ago. So yes... I've seen the whole of S2 therefore Good ending although once more you need the next series to finish the 'series end' plot.

SG1 is out each Friday in the States, then the same ep airs here in the UK 4 days later on the following Tuesday... pretty much airing at the same level. 4 more left to go of Season 9, then Season 10 in 4-5 months time. Incidentally Season 10 will put SG1 as the longest ever running Sci-Fi show, beating the X-Files' 9... thinking about it, not many shows make it to a decade, regardless of genre!

As for Worlds, see the staff forums MrWizard
