<--ranked 119th then

Heheh

I asked them last night again, I might go for Tiscali my mates on that as well only thing that worries me is he says in the small print it says something about: "Fair usage Policy"

Which sure sounds like a bandwidth cap to me

Im really going to try to get BB this time around I will sit down and have a proper talk about it to them and stuff

some throttle back the connection at peak times, R-ADSL rate adaptive dsl. Alot do this now for the cheaper prices, some like metronet i think give you full speed but you pay for transfer up to a fixed point at which point its free after, they work out pretty cheap, ie if you dont use it much one month you might only pay £8 and if you rinse it like a goodun then you still only pay £15!

Hmmm interesting...

Maybe if you guys post all the Advatages of Broadband (completely seriously... ) I could Copy Paste some of them and print them out for them to read through.

Gonna maybe ask about it tonight again. See if they have any Worries or Questions.

Well I don't know about the UK but any ISP over here (Ireland) that claims to have no data transfer caps have a "Fair usage Policy".

The ISP I went with has a 20 GB per month cap.

I've only had broadband about a month now and I kept a close eye on my usage for the first couple of weeks. I thought I was downloading quite a bit, updating Steam, getting mods, music and programs plus updating every single program on my PC. Add surfing the web and playing every multiplayer game I own and I thought it would add up

I was wrong. At the rate I was going I'd be lucky to hit 8 GB per month. So I went nuts. Downloading TV shows, music, mods, demo's, ect. and I've still only done 12 GB in a month.

I've come to the conclusion that I'd have to sit in front of this screen 24/7 if I'm ever to get near my 20 GB a month limit.

So that's it. I'm new to broadband but I'd much rather a decent set limit than a "Fair usage Policy" (Fair, being defined and redefined by my ISP at any time).

True I guess, I mean I highly doubt I would be downloading tons, but over here most Connections are Capped to like 2GB or 5GB. Which is ridiculous. If there was a 20GB cap on a 1mb service then I woulod probably go for that one...

Who are you with T.M.I.N.E.?

I wrote out a Basic "What is Broadband" with all the details, including the advantages... gonna give it to my step-dad later on for him to read through. I think the main reason they sdont want it is, they dont see the benefits and are worried about what it might do.

I'm with BT over here.

I just compared BT Ireland to BT UK.

With the 1Mb service over here you get a 10GB cap. Over there it's 2GB.

With the 2Mb service over here (the one I'm one) you get a 20GB cap. Over there it's 6GB.

Sorry Beat, I didn't realise the caps were so ridiculous over there. I see why you want an uncapped service now.

In France, bandwith is unlimited. There is a "fair" ammount to respect but noone really care as it's not precised.

Serial downloaders have existed for a while and they just let the comp on 24/24.
You might be hosting a RF server now.

I have my 2mbit connection with Onetel.

There is no download limit - Thats why I went with them.

Onetel are not the cheapest (@ £25 a month) but I cant complain.
Service is great, I get the full 2mbit I pay for and they when there was a problem with the line they acted fast.

NTL are the same, £24.99 2Mbit no cap.

Used to be 1Gb per day cap which was more than enough.
Cant complain about them switching to unlimited though...

Well just checked Onetel, I could get the 24.99 Package, however It just seems a waste to me that im paying for 2meg even though I can only get a 1mb connection.

Pipex have a 1GB limit!

It doesn't say Monthly or Daily...
>>HERE<<

Up to 2Mb broadband
1GB usage allowance*
FREE home phone calls
2 FREE months
FREE modem and connection
FREE firewall and anti-virus software

Also whenever I check my number on BT, it always comes back saying the same thing:
Quoting BT
or Telephone Number *********** on Exchange ******

Our initial test on your line indicates that you may be able to get BT Broadband with download speeds up to 1Mb, which is up to 20 times faster than dial-up. At the moment, your telephone line is unable to support our 2Mb speed broadband package. Also, due to the length of your line, an engineer visit may be required to set up your broadband service.

If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the speed of service you wish to order.

HOWEVER, Onetel have said nothing about a Technician being required...
Pipex have told me I can get 1mb, but nothing about the engineer again.

8Mbit is still only if you're >< this close to the exchange.

Beat, I'm not aware of a 1Gb limit on Pipex. It may be that new customers have the cap whilst older customers that signed up when it was unlimited are still unlimited.

Lets just say I know that line is used far more than that on a daily basis
