Heh, I dont friggin believe it, after I was shocked by my ste-dad finally accepting my Broadband proposal, i signed upto Tesco Broadband I chose the 1mb Uncapped option, and they said it would take 1-4 days to check my local exchange, then a further 1-5days to check my phoneline! I thought that was fine, but I got an email this morning (less than 24hours after ordering Broadband) both the checks have gone through and I have already recieved my Activation date! Is that quick or quick? Seriously, the fact im getting broadband is overwhelming but its already completed the checks and everything too? Am I dreaming? |

I wish i could get broad band, but Australia's poor quality copper network wont let me at 1Mbit 3.5Km from the exchange is the limit in Aus. how crap is that. im 8Km from the exchange no chance of geting it ever. but some hope that ISP's might start building wireless BB towers aroud them may be i might just be able to get BB at least in this decade. wireless BB is much faster then normal BB in Aus and pings as low as 5 on 1.5Mbit conection. towns all ready are geting towers built and hope mine will be done some time. I been trying to get BB for 5 years now crapy copper lines. |

I did tell you that Tesco BB was good Shame im still on little 512... but i found out 2 days ago that my ACTUAL speed through the router is 256
So hopefully (if my house is near the exchange), i will be getting BT BB 3mb, uncapped Won't cost me anything as my dad will be paying for it... just got to get my step-dads approval (he hates my dad ) |

I just wish broadband was portable so i'd actually have broadband when im staying at my mums place! going from 3+mb at my flat to 56k at my mums is a nightmare... even google is iritatingly slow |

Tricord had a 10Mbit connection in Belgium when I first met him... back in 2000.
Ok that was pretty much center of town stuff... anyone with cable in the UK can get 10Mbit now via NTL regardless of where you live. Trials of 100Mbit have started... its only a matter of time |

Heh, I keep seeing this advert for 22mb EVERYWHERE! UKonline or something, unlimited bandwidth too...
My mate reckons NTL is the best for high speed... Says they by-pass the local exchange meaning they dont suffer from certain problems.
Gonna ring Tesco up and get me my Discount
EDIT: Garner beat me about NTL by less than a minute! |

Of course it bypasses the local exchange... ADSL/Dialup are on your phone lines controlled by the evil Empire... er... whoops wrong galaxy... er... BT whilst NTL/Telewest have their own cable network. |

Heh, shame NTL isnt in my Area, my Step-dad looked into getting them for the TV and Phone before, but they couldn't do our area apparently.
Ah well 20x faster than 56k is certainly sweeter than sugar for me
I got the Free modem through today, now It only has a USB cable (Moulded) and the socket to connect to the Filter... I need to connect 2 computers, Im going to need to buy a Modem/router aren't I?
I could do a shared net connection over a LAN, but that would mean my PC would have to be on for the other PC to surf (I think).
all I need is the following:
2 Computers to connect
An Ethernet slot (for my Xbox )
POSSIBLY wireless (for DS )
I guess if its a Router, its not going to have USB sockets going to PCs, so basically 3 Ethernet sockets?
Recommended product guys? |
