Probably your net connection

And you said you have a 8MB ATi video card..... Don't expect that to even start the menu for HL2 or CSS....

And I really wouldn't recommend a Pentium 3, rather an Intel Celeron, Intel Pentium 4, AMD AthlonXP, AMD Duron, AMD Athlon64, etc.
The more high end cpus...

Quoting FileFront

Official Half-Life 2 Box minimum specs:

* Processor: 1.2 GHz Processor
* OS: Windows, 2000/XP/Me/98
* Graphic card: DirectX 7 level graphics card
* Hard Drive: 4.5 GB
* Memory: 256 MB RAM
* Other: Internet Connection, DVD-ROM Drive

But yea, follow the minimum specs
Also, for the internet connection, recommended is Broadband.

.... Steam is actually a decent little program, the only thing that really annoys everyone is it's damned loading >_<

But other than that, I believe that Steam is in excellent use for Valve games.

And Neil, look into getting a new DECENT prebuilt pc, or build one yourself

Trust me, you didn't used to play CS nor CSS on that pc

With an 8MB vid card you probably can't even run Red Faction......

It will cost you maybe around $400-$1000 for a decent tower(no monitor, keyboard, speakers, etc.) Or, get a Dell 2100 for $399, which has monitor, keyboard, speakers, etc.

Well, I don't believe you have an 8MB vid card then....

You cannot run RF on a 8mb video card which was probably shared graphics on the board anyway.

When i tryed to run RF on my OLD pc with 8mb it would load but all the gfx were REALLY screwy (not playable) but you could run CS 1.6 on it without any issues, its a very low end PC friendly game.
P.S. Still Alive.

Ok, I take back what I said then. I have reread the RF system requirements, and I see it says AT LEAST 8MB VRAM..... Still.. That vid card is worth maybe $1-$5 these days.... If that! lol, maybe only a couple of cents really... Or better yet, free
