yeah i also vote that it was crap ... i mainly hate the stupid part where you have to connect to play ... i just want to D/L the game and not have steam crap popping up on my screen. especially the stupid updates everytime i play the game ... they are probably loading new malware\spyware

I hate steam also,It just a pain FULL STOP!
I have entered my password wrong so many times, And Steam Needs to fix ALOT of their product.

I brought Halflife 2 etc and when i join some servers it says i have an Illegal Or corrupted Steam, Mostly on this 1 aussie server cant rember its name thoe

Updating Its platform Is a pain all the time when it happens....It stays on 48% for too long then goes 100%

You have to Join A friends beta list even thoe you have an account, the new friends list also takes 2 long

also It says u can register half life 1 on to it and it dosnt work

Ya thats retarded. Most of the time when me and my friends have a LAN with no internet and we want to play CS:S or Garys mod or something that uses steam we can't... We choose start in offline mode then it says, "this game is not ready to be started in offline mode"... WTH!

Steam is the biggest road block to gaming, EVER!

It needs to be updated to 100% for it to work in Offline mode. You don't need the latest updates, but it can't have been paused/stopped and then you try to play it.

Agreed Skip, I have never had a problem at all with steam in any form and its a lot damn better than BF2's crappy server browser.

I'm Undecided, I like the way it automatically downloads custom maps for you.

but i somehow don't like how it works in general.

I think the idea of it is great, it just doesnt pull it well.

I would prefer if it were more subdued, like you run CSS (and other steam apps)and then it steps in once you click "find servers"

Steam is like communism, its good in theory but its just not practical. All the updates piss me off and sometimes when i dont have the internet and i say start in offline mode it STILL tries to connect and then says it couldnt reach the network."Really? MAYBE ITS BECAUSE THERES NO INTERNET YOU PIECE OF CRAP!" *smashes monitor in fit of rage*

I like Steam... To have your games constantly improved and updated without manually installing patches is a great idea, it also prevents the kind of error messages you get when enterng servers on other games, BF2 for example. After spending 5 minutes loading the map and other resources you are told, "You have a different version to the server" back to square one.

Steam updates are usually pretty rapid and they keep everyone on a level playing field, there's never any compatibility issues. Sure it messes some things up from time to time, but they are usually fixed up pretty swiftly. No need to wait months for the new patch to be compiled and released.

it would have been fine if you could d/l the game and be able to play it without the Steam launcher. but since you can't ... it sucks. I really don't like those updates

Steam is a lot better now than it used to be. It still has a few issues though.

One of the best and worst parts of Steam is the automatic patching. Like ferrit said it's great not having to worry about keeping your game updated and who's going to complain about the ongoing addition of content to your games?

However every time they fix something in an update they break something for somebody else.

My Half Life 2 was working fine until an update to fix other people's issues. After that it kept crashing until the next update fixed it and I'm sure, broke somebody else’s game.

An option to roll back to a previous version would be nice. Also it should give you a choice in whether you want to install the latest patch.

It seems kind of silly to make those that have slow connections and only play offline, download huge, unneeded and possibly game wrecking updates before they can play a game that was working fine in the first place.
