It would seem that there is a push to change the way we spell.

Time to change how we spell wurdz?

They want it so that the words look like they sound, but what about different accents people have? Will a person from the deep south spell a word the same way as a person from Boston? They don't sound the same, so would they be spelled the same? If so, that would defeat the purpose of phoenetic spelling.

Now thats BS. I get pissed at people who spell like that, and I, for one, will never do it, even if this motion is passed.

It's only a matter of time before a group starts pushing to spell words like '1337' and 'suxxorz'

I know you said 'people that play the games.' Just because they use it on the game servers doesn't mean they are pushing for legislation to actually change the way everyone spells, like the people in the article.

Just because it is a trend doesn't (always) mean it will become the standard.

I doubt that any time soon I'll see something on CNN like " Oh noes, Pentagon computers cracked by 1337 haxxorz."

i think thats stupid ... just because a couple students can't spell worth a crap doesn't mean that we should change the way people write, hell us gamers are usually the people that make that crap up and were against it ...

hell when i was reading the paper i could barely read it ...

Yes they're right. English should be spelled like it's pronunced... always.

Would be easier to learn for us, foreigners.

Either spell wurds or pronunce the O like in bOne.

Even thas bs, since different accents accentuate different vowels in different words.

I was talking to a friend last night, we are both from south east london and kent, her mother is from wales. when we say marshmallow we accentuate the a, her mother pronounces it with a less harsh a in mallow, which sounds half way between that and mellow.

If you look at the heritage of the english language it has been changing for donkey's years. Originally stemming from norman french, german, dutch, saxon, we have an incredible ammount of conflicting pronounciations. take rough tough, bough, though, etc! each has a slightly different variation of the last syllable.

If you look at all those languages mentioned above youll notice they use those silly looking accents above letters. these are all but dropped from the english language. Thank god! I meant who honestly has ever spelt coordinate as coördinate?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_English_words_with_diacritics

The language will always change as generations die off and modern variations take over. Just look at how many english kids spell colour color? purely from the american influence in pretty much everything. even 911 works in this country since all the retards dont know the difference between english and american sitcoms.

Languages changes. There is no need to force it.

jer voodrayz ler pan siv oo play. yeah phonetic spelling really sucks they tried it in schools in the late 80's and it didn't work, it just created a generation of retards.

I know in my home of Newfoundland, a regular person says this:
"Ill be ouwt da once b'y!" Or "Gotta get me moose b'y". I have a bit of that accent and if youve ever heard my voice, youd probably have a hard time understanding it. My point is, Austrailians, Newfoundlanders, English, Americans, Canadians, Hell, even the differnt regions of courtrys speak differntally! They all speak the same language English! But, its differnt...

Well my vote is obviously NO... I had trouble understanding parts of the article where they were using phonetic spelling anaways.

I wouldnt be able to fathom that being used everyday.
