Yes, that’s right. Google, in its effort to conquer the internet (insert Invader Zim type theme music here), has bought YouTube! For a grand total of:
~ drum roll ~
$1.65 billion
Here’s the article for more details.

True, beatonator
I dont think its too bad, they said they were going to aquire it, but they have stated that they plan not to change it at all... if they did, it would be a real big mistake on their part.
I wonder, if they bought it, theyll be bringing in some kind of payed service wont they |

Maybe now they'll buy L4Y
It's happened so there's not much that we can do about it now, but it's always better to have a few separate companies around, not just one massive corporate entity owning everything. |

It's funny you say that, some person came to another popular forum that I visit and attempted to buy it. Of course one of the moderator/owners of the site egged the guy on in hopes that the guy would catch the drift that he was simply joking but the buyer took him seriously
Anyways, back on topic, I'm pretty sure there's little to no chance this will effect Google or YouTube in any way, shape, or form. Just a whole big profit plan by Google. |

They only bought them for the name, they will be keeping both up and getting all the youtube "faithfuls" who would prolly not visit Google Video if they were to close youtube and vice versa.
They will keep both as they are just trying to increase their market share. |

Xfire was bought for $102 Million (i know, only pocket change compared to 1.6billion) and changes for users were minimal.
All becuase Viacom just wanted to increase their portfolio.
Of course YouTube will be changed, but structurally ... users will notice not alot of differnce becuase if they change it they would lose some of their audience.
They could just remove youtube or googlevideo, perhaps even incorporate them both into one thing, but my money is on little change from the consumers point of view. |
