Hey peeps,

I require some additional help about a SocketA AMD AthlonXP 3200+ processor.

Ok here is the deal.

Me and my Girl Friend both have the same Motherboards in our computers which is a MSI(MicroStar Internation) K7N2 Delta 2. Click the link for more details.

My Girl Friend has the AMD AthlonXP 3200+ in her computer which has shown alot of problems and issues.
I have the AMD AthlonXP 2500+ in mine and none of the problems im going to state have ever happened!

I have found that the Processor is faulty because I tried the processor in my computer and I experianced some weird and strange responces from my computer.

Firstly, After running Red Faction and quiting the game and returning to the desktop, some icons and the start menu were showing purple colours.

Second, Attempted to play on Half-Life 2. Now this was very weird. I loaded HL2 normally and the main menu showed. Loaded a new game or a saved game, the game would get half way through loading then a blank blue screen showed up which im guessing was the "The Windows Blue Screen Of Death".

On a few Reboot attemps, I saw the "The Windows Blue Screen Of Death" twice.

Could anyone point me in the correct direction to fix these issue's I have had with the processor, I would be very greatful!

Thank you!

1,.... is it the 3200+ you need help with?

2, The 3200+ works in your girlfriend's mobo.... Then, it is not faulty.

I'd say RMA it back to wherever you got it and see if that helps... However, if you've had the cpu for a longer period of time, then did it ever work correctly?

The CPU hasnt worked ever since I got it for her. I am thinking about trying to purchase a new processor, AMD Sempron.

The funny thing i find about this is that the Manual and the Website state that the Mobo can support an AMD Athlon 3200+ and higher. Yet I gain issues with my girl friends computer and mine.

Is there any ways I could test out the processor to see if it is faulty or not?

Well if its not working in 2 computers, RMA it. Surprised you haven't sent it back already...

Was bought from a computer fair, so the device has no cover on it and can't be sent back unfortunally

Ouch. Sorry man, but I wouldn't suggest buying computer hardware from those kind of fairs. More than half the time the hardware may not even work.

Yeah, I have learnt my lesson from purchasing hardware from the fair. I am going to attempt to buy a AMD Sempron 2500+ Socket A off Ebay or Amazon.

If im going to purchase this item, I will make sure that the seller is a good seller. Im Already watching an Sempron on Ebay for £39.99 buyitnow. The seller has no negative feedback.

Sobe, you still havent explained why you called me a n00b on MSN yet .

Here are some nice listing of a AMD AthlonXP 3000+. I had the AthlonXP 3000+ barton(400MHz) core and could play ALL the latest games, FEAR, BF2, Prey, etc. without a hitch.

AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Barton core CPU Socket A 333 FSB - £49.05

AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 400FSB (Barton Core) Sckt A CPU - £34.00

NEW AMD Athlon XP 3000+ - AXDL3000DLV4E OEM - £21.00

AMD ATHLON XP 3000+ Sock A (462) RETAIL RARE WORKING! - £26.00

AMD Athlon XP 3000 CPU (Barton Core) - £1.00

P.S.
The Barton core'd XP 3000+ chips have 512Kb L2 cache, rather than the Thoroughbred core with 256Kb L2 cache. As well as the Barton beeing 400MHz FSB rather than the Thoroughbred core's 333MHz FSB. =D I dunno, I just loved my XP 3000+, performed overclocked @ 2.7GHz for a long time. Still working after 3+yrs of a stable 2.5GHz clock, as I underclocked from the 2.7GHz just to be a tad safer on the oc'ing.
