Post 2 / 3 sounds like you may have some conflicts running which may be causing some issues with the update. I would run some diagnostics tests to see what the heck is going on. I would start here http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.aspx and also run the app located at www.pcpitstop.com . Takes couple minutes to check your system, any issues will show up with solutions to solve
