Sounds good for sure mate.
I only wanted to cover simple bases based upon previous experience with freezing like you are experiencing.
On any newer model tvs you shouldn't have that issue though(HDTV pretty much covers that). I'd still look at the newer nVidia beta drivers. Also, did this issue start only after taking the video cards out of SLI?
Is your Core2Quad overclocked? How about your video card(s)?
Another thing to check, grab HWMonitor and check the 12V. It should be within +/- 5% of 12.00 v. |

I don't think anything is overclocked. I've had this problem pretty much since I've had the system. I guess I should have done something about it while still within my warranty but... I'm lazy sometimes.
SLI has no effect on whether the system freezes. I actually only have it disabled because one of the games I played did not support it.
It's pretty weird. I can play old games full-screen with no problems. Starcraft, Diablo II, etc. But anything with a higher resolution than 600x800 seems to be the problem, but only if it is run in full-screen mode.
Another odd thing is if I leave my computer on overnight, with no music on, it is guaranteed that I will turn my monitor on to discover a frozen screen saver. However, if there is music playing, the system never freezes.
What the F, indeed...
I just updated my nvidia drivers. It's late so I'll test it out tomorrow. Plus... I hate having to reboot. lol
Perhaps we should move this to a separate thread. |

I didn't think I'd need to mention this, but, what power supply do you have.... Brand, model, and wattage.
When it comes to power supplies more wattage isn't always as good as a quality unit. |

hmmm, I would go for a Reformat and re-install Windows approach. If it keeps freezing like that and we aint sure why, try a nice fresh re-installation of Windows.
If your computer is bought from a computer store, you can restore your computer back it its factory settings, using the F10 button when you switch your computer on (Depending on what computer make you have, most can be ALT + F10 or F12. Some require you to create a CD for the restore).
If your computer is built by you or a store, you will just simply need to wack your Windows installation disk in and reformat and re-install.
Partitioned hard drives or seperate hard drive's will not be affected by the re-format, just the C drive. Make sure you have everything backed up. |

I'm quite software savvy. I've restored factory settings before, after the Great Vundo Virus of '08 lol.
My system froze before and after the restoration. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue. Only problem is I'm not all that learned in the hardware field. I can identify parts and tell you what they do but as far as knowing model numbers, who makes them, etc., I have no idea.
I have a thousand-watt power supply I think. That's really all I can tell you at this point.

I listen to a lot of techno... That's pretty much 100% repeating music. lol |

your sorted then mate!
could it be due to a resolution change? (obviously this shouldn't be occurring, but its an idea). |

1k watts jesus christ.
But it sounds like something is over heating, I had a similar problem, my processor didn't or, was running out of that paste stuff under it. So I just bought a bottle of the stuff and dabbed it on my processor, then no more freezes and crashes. Do you have any temperature displays? |

Kilowatt PSU's aren't all that uncommon anymore. Also, as I said earlier, overheating would more likely lead to restarts rather than lockups. Windows has a built-in emergency restart to prevent hardware damage in the event of overheating. If the hardware is heating up to the point of lockup faster than Windows can respond to the problem then you have bigger problems. |

Haha, glad to hear from you again.
As far as this freezing thing is concerned, I think I'll just continue to ignore it as I have for the past couple years. If it freezes with Starcraft II or Diablo III then I'll tackle this issue full-force.
I've got my old computer as a backup if things are that uncontrollable. |

Bart, have you tried isolating the component causing issues?
Switch out the GFX with your old one?
Try rolling back the drivers?
If that doesn't work, try your new GFX in your old machine... etc...? |

My friend mentioned his audio drivers were causing his system to slog. It's actually the one thing I have never updated, now that I think of it, so I'm going to try updating my audio drivers. I got the freeze again yesterday while playing Pure Faction in windowed mode. I was listening to Panic! At the Disco and the very brief silence between two of their songs halted my system.
I've heard of stranger things happening.
Like a HUD PDU fixing an FCC 255 MFL. Know what I mean? ...Probably not.
------------
*Edit*
I ran some stress tests on my computer and found out the ALU in my primary core is bad which would explain older games freezing like RF and Portal, and not newer ones that use PHYSX, like Dragon Age: Origins.
