Version 2 of the queuing system... this time you are given a unique user ID that keeps track of you. Your IP address doesn't matter...
Same system as before... you click to download, window pops up and tells you that you have entered the queue.
When the download is ready a little sound plays to warn you. Make sure you click that link within 3 minutes otherwise your download spot will be given to the next person in the queue to prevent people from purposely holding everyone up.
If your browser doesn't automatically refresh, it isn't my problem. This works perfectly in Internet Explorer 6, Opera 7, Avant, E2 and Mozilla Firefox. If you have one of these browsers and your window isn't refreshing every 60 seconds (note that your queue position may not change each time you refresh) then its a setting on YOUR PC that is causing the problem... NOT the queue. |

Oh and before anyone complains the queue reset itself... the old queue wasn't compatible with the new one so I had to delete everyone out of it.
You would have automatically entered it again when your browser next refreshed anyway. |

Here is what i am seeing . there is 17 people online 5 of which show to be downloading. I am number 29 in line . all the rest are viewing items. I have been waiting over ten minutes now to get a map. Something odd may be going on |

Sigh...
The online users does NOT correspond in any way to the people in the queue.
The online users shows how many people visited a page on the site within the past 3 minutes. The files queue tracks everyone in the queue...
If they are identical then its a fluke. Its very unlikely to ever match up because they are not recording the same thing! |

36 queued + 10 downloading = 46 users that otherwise would be trying to get files at the same time. This is why there is a queuing system... 46 users downloading would have decimated the site without a queue... |

Yup... I took the day off work and this is how I've spent the majority of my birthday...
I'm off out soon, only for a few hours though, back to work again tomorrow and I'm exhausted. |

Is it just me or does this system not support download managers? I've been trying to get Ranswers mod with GetRight as it's quite big and will take a few sessions to get. Everytime I try the queue window pops up but with nothing in it.
Ahh, screw it. I've been here hours waiting and finally got to the front of the queue while I was in the bathroom and lost my place |

I was just saying there was lots of people downloading. I see no problem with this system myself. Everyone who thinks it was better before is so wrong. I'd rather know when I can download as opposed to refreshing forever and hopefully cutting in line. |

The actual file download is still compatible with download managers.
You have to sit through the queue as normal but when you get the link saying you can download I see no reason why you cant use it then. Dont expect to use more than one connection though, the server wont allow it. Resuming also wont work, you'll have to queue up again to get a download spot in order to resume.
You were in the bathroom for longer than 3 minutes? |

Exactly, glad someone understands why! |

Ok I think I got it now. You have to turn you download manager off to get into the queue then turn it back on while in the queue to be able to use it when you get to the front.

My connection to the server keeps getting reset when I get to d/l
Too many users generally?

Now that really would turn alot of the people with good connections away
Us 56k'ers can only dream of multiple downloads! |

Resuming won't work???
Oh man!
Well that's the end of my downloading from L4Y. The reason I used a download manager in the first place was for resuming and not for the extra connections. I get way to many drop-outs to cope without resuming. |
