Changelog for Game 10

Game 10 starts Sunday 20:00 BST (about 20 hours from the time of this post).

Right now we have a quick final test game going on with staff so you'll see a few things happening in the events log - dont worry we're not getting a headstart - it'll all be reset tomorrow before the start. We have to test the new changes!

New Features
- Empire / Military Specialisations [Based on idea from Beatonator]
     During signup you can select empire and military specialisations.
     Each of the two specialisations has 4 different options with an extra 'none' for each should you not wish to use any specialisation.
     Each one provides you an advantage and an appropriate disadvantage for that skill.
     You cannot change your specialisations at all after signup. Choose wisely.

Changes
- Map position selection during signup is now a clickable map showing the current galaxy map and a random selection of available locations. No more drop down list of options!
- Interface changed slightly - control buttons are now on the left and the information/turn buttons made easier to see. [kristofer]
- Recent Events page now combines same events together. So if a player captures 6 planets in a row before someone else does something it'll just say 'repeated 5 times' instead of displaying the same text repeatedly.
- Map bookmarks are now buttons and fit two per line.
- IE6+ is now capable of displaying the interface correctly. [Mostertman]
- Tutorial updated to describe the reworked interface and updated to reflect gameplay changes since the original version.
- Signup page 1 reworked to be easier to read as well as provide information about L4YGold and what it provides within the game.
- Errors during signup now refresh the same page with the error message on rather than the broken 'go back' link (which expected you to be in the game interface)
- Ship status check added to end turn script. If any ship gets stuck, advancing the game one turn will 'free' the ship. You'll be notified of this as the fleet will announce it has received new orders to hold its current position.
- LPA Retaliation time is now adjustable within the code.
- LPA Retaliation time is now displayed during game signup.
- LPA Retaliation time increased from 24 to 36 hours.
- Spies now steal 20% less money.
- Mining rate halved.
- Tax income rate halved.
- DN, DD hull increased 10%
- BS hull increased 20%
- If two players have no combat history (or only one has attacked the other), lower points score must be at least 60% of higher points score
- If a combat history exists between two users (ie both have attacked each other), rate changes to 40% (ie bigger points difference is allowed)
- These percentages are now shown during signup.

Bug Fixes
- Now possible to click the X to close the tutorial in affected browsers.
- Extra check added to auto build process to eliminate incorrect numbers of defence platforms being created. [Mostertman]
- Spies stealing gold amount is now reported correctly to the victim. [Winter/Mostertman]
- Returning ships finding that their home planet was under enemy control were announcing they were warping to your home planet when they were actually attempting (see below) to warp to the closest friendly planet.
- Returning ships finding that their home planet was under enemy control were warping to random planets within your empire and not the closest planet as they should. Was a cause of stuck ships. [Mostertman]
- End of signup proceedure told you that you had 1000 scout ships. Which was a little off the 20 you actually got...

Ah I only just noticed that this actually still is a test game Bummer I thought I had a nice start being one of the first in game


I immediately have a question for you Garner, I remember something about, once you have became first in the ranking list in PC that you loose all LPA protection.
I'm I correct about this? and if its true what happens if you than fall back to second position, does LPA get back up?

Ranking has nothing to do with anything other than the scores page. Merely information to use to compare yourself and your alliance with others.

The 'LPA' switch is once you reach a certain 'level' within the game. Its not all LPA either, its just a big drop in protection levels so you'll still get protected... but have to suffer much greater losses to get it.

This switch once triggered will never turn back off... even if you are mauled back to a single planet. The idea is that once you reach a certain level within the game you're advanced enough to stand against your foes...

Needless to say, its a fairly high level to reach before it triggers. Its silent so you'll never know when you've past it.
