Your TV has USB? I've never heard that one before... But anyways, back on topic. In most cases a TV tuner is required to receive television signals on a PC. With the rise of digital cable more and more cable boxes are coming with things like VGA ports and such. There are, however, USB TV tuners, but they're quite a bit more expensive than the standard PCI/AGP/PCI-E cards. |

You can have adsl TV if you have an ADSL connection. You have to pay an ISP for that and you need a rather important bitrate (speed?)
Otherwise you can find TV tuners as big as a USB key. Link it to an antena and you're in. |

When it comes to TV tuners they're all going to be fairly expensive. I don't know the current exchange rate for Euro to USD; but in USD the prices range anywhere from $20 to $120. You don't want to get a cheap one as those usually break fairly quickly. I recommend Newegg for hardware needs. They provide good service and a review system for all of their products so you can see others' experiences before buying. |

Ah, i believe I have Windows XP Media Centre Edition.
TV does not connect to any USB unless Software is provided with it. You need a TV Tuner card for your PC. Mine is a Philips Multi Media PC. My PC has an ATI Radeon X1300 Series which is upto 512MB.
As for Media Centre, It does not detect any USB connections as shown in the image below.

Media Centre does not really require a Top Set-Box to oporate so if you do get a TV tuner, you can just plug in your Standard TV cable/Aerial and it will scan for the connection thats being picked up.
If you do have a Top Set-Box, then you will be required to grab your self one of these stupid things to control your box using a Windows Remote...
Microsoft Remote & Receiver *Sorry if its in GBP, You can easily find one for USD*
The Receiver has this special sensor that sticks to the back of a Remote Outburst signal on the back of your Top Set-box, allowing the Windows Remote to control and change channels of your top set-box.
Its also a pain in the backside to set up too lol, I had problems with my Receiver changing the channel because I had the wrong version of my top set-box selected and had to find what version it was by doing an obsessive search on google.
But, the good thing is that when you have set it all up, its great to use and able to record your favourite TV programs to watch over and over.
You can also connect your PC to a TV to view all your content through a TV rather than a monitor. You can do other things like play music, play a slide show of images through the TV and so on!
And, it makes it easy to find all your recorded programs to watch again, Pause Live TV while you go to the toilet for a PeePee then resume the TV so that you do not miss one bit.
Bare in mind that when you pause Live TV, the Media Centre starts recording the TV onwards then just plays it on when you resume. Once the program is finished, you need to hit the Fast Forward button to resume back to the correct TV time. |
