Topic title says it all really. I moved house back on the 1st June.
I still do not have a telephone line.
I've kept a nice track of my fun with them. I'll post it up here and modify from time to time as the saga continues.
Quote | 2nd June
Rang BT
Told only taking callbacks, will get call within 48 hours.
5th June
BT called me to take details. Direct Debit details taken and £25 deposit.
Promised it would be activated on Thursday 7th June, new phone number would be txt'd to me (ooh how modern)
7th June
Promised activation doesn't happen.
8th June
Gave up waiting after an hour in a queue. BT cant answer their own phones it seems.
BT take £25 out of my account. Not quite sure why as they've not yet started service...
10th June
Finally reach a human being who tells me he cant help because the department that needs to deal with my query isn't there on Sundays.
11th June
1hr 25mins in a queue before finally reaching someone with a brain instead of a machine.
Tells me the order has todays date on it and will be activated tomorrow (12th June)
12th June
Surprise surprise. Bugger all happens.
13th June
See above.
14th June
Jane Maxwell (very helpful/appologetic)
1hr 4 mins in a queue - couldn't find the order number anymore (found it happily on the 11th June)
Found it under my mobile number eventually.
Order has been delayed due to new system, can take up to 14 days from original date of provision for team that deal with such delays.
This was quoted as by the 21st (so the original date of the 7th obviously was correct)
15th June ->20th June
Daily checking the line just in case its quicker than the promised 2 weeks.
Should have known better... of course it wont be.
21st June
End of the 2 week deadline.
Nothing happens. Still dont have a line.
22nd June
46mins (WORLD RECORD!)
Find out that Openreach (the engineers) have not been told to do the line yet. CENSORED .
New service request put in, promised they (Openreach) will contact me on my mobile (double checked number to be sure)
Damian (again, very helpful and appologetic... pity BT's actual service isn't as good as their customer support)
Was told that my originally quoted order number (VOL 011/4000) was wrong.
Explains why they've had trouble finding it in the past.
This guy however, after finding my under my mobile number/address took the time to tell me my actual number (VOL 011/4000)
I could understand the switched 5 and 9... but I was missing the last 2 numbers as well...
26th June
Naturally the promised contact from Openreach never happens.
31 mins in a queue
Got a billing advisor. On the order support line. Go figure.
First thing the guy asked was if I was chasing an order he wouldn't be able to help.
He transferred me. CENSORED
2 mins
The muppet put me through to a TV department. BT do TV's???
Transferred again. Probably back to the same place I originally came from.
1hr 19 mins
Yup, back to the original place. Got another billing advisor... yet this one had a clue.
Kevin
Cant find a history at the address. Meaning it might never have had a BT line (strange as there's a BT socket on the wall and the sellers of my property listed BT as their phone provider)
Therefore their might be a charge of up to £124.99 to reconnect.
Which if there is I'll tell the engineer to GFY and go with someone else...
Engineer booked for next Tues between 8 and 1. Thats a week from now.
They're so overloaded with the new broken system the billing department are helping the order line. Says it all really doesn't it.
This guy put me into the old system (a billing advisor drafted in to help has more of a clue than the people I've been talking to for the last 3 weeks) and have been given order number of EA.
Means any BT advisor can help me now without the 1hr+ queue.
Being very skeptical at this point, I rang them back, gave the number and they found me and confirmed the engineer appointment and gave my mobile number.
Bloody hell it works.
3rd July.
Will the line be activated? Will pigs fly? Will the earth fall off the edge of the universe?
Stay tuned!

HAHAHAHAH, it didn't!
The number might ring and I could order broadband on the line (the day before ISP's were telling me the number didn't exist) so obviously SOMETHING happened... but connect the line the engineer did not.
Apparently he couldn't find my house.
Obviously they dont teach people how to read addresses in BT, nor how to write down telephone numbers. If you read the first post you'll see several references to my mobile number... including the 14th June when they found my order under my mobile number. Yet somehow yesterday the engineer had the wrong number and couldn't ring me.
I've had it with BT. They're a telecommunications company that cant seem to supply telecommunications nor communicate with each other. Fortunately theres a nice address to write to (independant I might add) to moan and my god they're getting a nice letter from me... I see no reason why I should pay for a non existant service and the sort of service I'd expect it the company was run by a class of 7 year olds.
Sorry... the 7 year olds would probably do a better job. At least they'd try and play around with the wires... they could probably work a satnav as well. Its not exactly hard to find an address in todays world...

Well the wait is over. Finally got my phone line at 17:30 this evening...
Rather amusingly my ADSL account was enabled at 16:48, a day earlier than expected and 40 minutes before I even had a telephone line.
So Eclipse managed to setup my internet in 4 days, BT took 37 days to send an engineer to me to perform the 60minute job to connect the line. Go figure.
Feels good to be connected to the world again |
