I had an idea of how to combat modders infesting our fair game while playing a nice game in Cobra 666. 2 Modders joined, One by the name of MM and one I will mention later, they started using ghost ect... really annoyed people. They also didn't seem to stop when rcon holders threatened to ban them.
So I asked them to join me in my server, one did, MM didnt. I got the other guy's IP and name to hand out to other server admins.
Here's my idea:
A list of known modders; The community lists names and/or IP's of known modders (and their aliases) to help server admins and players identify and (hopfully) ban them.
Let me start off
List of Known Modders (To be banned, preferably):
1. Name: Thunder Boy
++Aliases: Mr.Flame
++IP Address:
2. Name: Moppel
++Aliases: N/A
++IP Address:
I ask for the community to contribute and help keep modders out of our game!
P.S. Hapa or Frank, Please sticky this topic as it is made to help everyone. |

I plan to keep a close eye on this thread to keep my server ban list up to date. I completely support the idea of a community ban list. It's not quite like Steam's ban system, but I think it's as close as Red Faction is going to get. |

Well, not all modders will use the same name. If they find out that their old ailias gets banned, whats to stop them from posing as you. or one of your firends? |

Not really original as I've known of a few of these lists.
Still a good one none-the-less and I don't think L4Y has had one yet (successful one anyways) |

Cobra is a mod server I think. I think when I joined I had a different weapon with unlimited ammo. This makes the game so unbelievable hard, I just disconnected again I also heard some people firing rapidly and maybe flying so having modders in there seems to be usual.
Unfortunately these IP lists are worth nothing when the modders change their IPs to join again.
And nicknames are worth nothing at all. No modder calls himself with his real nickname |

Well it would be very hard to get into my L4Y acount. Since they wouldnt, If someone posted a modder by my name or my friends name i could just them them that its not who they think it is? Everyone knows that i don't mod and do everything in my power to not let others mod, wouldnt you find it strange if someone called themselves Goober and came in modding? It's happened.
Frog, It's a modded server, but it doesnt welcome client side cheating mods. And about modders changing their IP.... That will happen no matter what, The least we can do is make it harder on them. After all, none of us want cheaters in our game, especially ones who cheat in public servers.
Hapa, although other sites have similar lists, what harm can another do? It can only help. |

I hear ya goober. However, advertising IP's is a dangerous business.
IMO, tracking IP's is a fruitless endevour.
Want to solve the cheat problem? Don't overreact. Talk to them.
What every server needs is a squad of active and calm RCON. |

I have a mmorpg engine which i have source too and am working on, it uses typical IPbanning, however if you keep getting a persistant modder, you can bn te actual HDD serial code which is a much better way of getting rid of them, harder t get around than the IP change.
Just a shame RF doesnt support this. |

Yeah, I talk to them.... once...ask them not to mod and leave and come back with mods off. They get about 20 seconds to decide. |

Modders get no time to decide. Otherwise they'll just come back.
They destroy your game. You give em 20seconds to leave and come back without mods.
They leave, and come back in a hour with mods again so whats the point. Ban them asap. |

I've had many that left without issue when I let them know that I didn't want mods in my server. Some of them are probably young kids who have just learned some mod tricks and are trying them out. I certainly want people to play in a server mod free, but I don't want to chase off RF players, either. I have no problem banning if they don't leave when asked or come back later on with mods still on. They only get 1 warning. |

here's a problem with the whole idea of ip's that are not private
http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm?GetLocation
but who's to say egging the houses of modders isn't a good thing"
the info for my ip is pretty vauge it recons im in brisbane whereas im actually in toowoomba.
anyway back on topic, i think this is a good idea on the whole and mabye it would be a good nudge to modders to give it up and play fairly. i agree with TRUMP's outlook on things. as well as the idea of having admin around whenever there are players on your server, that have a bit of patience and understanding. |

I hear you about the not making harsh decisions, but this list wouldn't include one time offenders, but modders who have refused to leave multiple times and should be banned anyway. |
