New Poll: European Championships 2004
Posted Jun 24th, 01:03pm by DG
Modified Jun 24th, 01:07pm by DG
After the last useless poll, time for something more interesting, for the European visitors anyway
The final eight are now known, who do you think has the biggest chance to become the winner of the tournament?

We'll know more after these games:
June 24: Portugal - England
June 25: France - Greece
June 26: Sweden - The Netherlands
June 27: Czech Republic - Denmark
(as you can see, this will be a short poll, so vote quickly!)

We lost because of the ref... not the other team. Beckham is overrated... what has he managed to do other than miss penalties?

Personally I couldn't give a flying dog about football, a bunch of over-payed yobo's kicking a ball around a field - not my idea of interesting.

I saw the penalty shoot out in the England-Portugal game. Now I understand why people get so tense about shootouts.

rocket, isn't a soccer game 90 minutes long? Or are you making a joke that I don't get?

The Ref is a Swiss Banker and that's putting it polite!

It will be France all the way now.
Something went terribly wrong today.

You are right a football match has 2 halves of 45 minutes.
But in a knockout tournament a winner has to come out of the match, so when the game ends in a tie. The game will be extended for another two halves of 15 minutes.

In the Euro 2004 Tournament in those last 2 halves the rule of the silver goal is applied. Whenever one of the two teams scores in one of the halves, that half will be played, if they are still ahead at the end of that half, they're the winner.

If however after the last 2 halves the teams are still tied, the match will be decided by penalty kicks.

So in total a football match could last for 120 minutes, like the match Portugal-England.

LoL, thought I would comment on how BIG soccer is in Europe, and yet not even metioned in US journalism. Go, errr..mmm..Turkey!

P.S. Is NFL(National Football Leauge) in sports pages in Europe?...And if so, just the superbowl?...or regular games?

A while ago they tried introducing the thing in The Netherlands along with a Football(US) team the Amsterdam Admirals.

General consensus here is that it's all buff, no brains and alot of bashing. We tend to like a bit more sophisticated sports

LoL, how right you are! It is alot of bashing, but its fun to watch! Also, we, in America, The United States, bread Football(US) players in our universties, then give them outragous paycheaks.

All part of the system in America, The United States.

OBVIOUSLY everyone who lives in the country votes on where he lives, right, seeing there are more english people.. i made my point

Not necessarily.
It would be normal that Portugal wins, being host.

I would love to see an England v France final, but I think the French will prove too strong.

I have been desapointed by the results of France in this championship (and actually by the performance of most countries except sweden). Actually, France nearly hasn't won any of the friendly matches they play before Euro.
