In Steam's latest update they released a BETA that could take the gaming world by storm.
I wish to lead Levels-4-You through this new endeavour from steam as it shows steam they have support (read: update with users in mind) and can also benefit L4Y as a real-time gaming HUB for all our users.
What it does currently for the L4Y Community.
- Allows users to see who else is online and what they are playing (steam-only games are the only ones supported at this time.)
- A dedicated L4Y chatroom (tells you how many people are currently in the room on the group homepage)
- Quick join into other members online games from the homepage (Again steam-only games at this time)
- Events, Gives the abilities for admins and selected members to add events to the calendar which are then shown on the homepage and all users are notified via steam.
- Announcements, any exciting or important news can be added by admins or selected members to be displayed on the main page.
See below for a quick look at how the homepage looks.
Remember this is all still in BETA and you can be assured that its usability and functionality will undoubtedly be improved on once steam gets it's feedback and bug reports.
To become a part of this (hopefully) revolution you only need three things:
1. STEAM
2. Steam will need to have the BETA enabled to use (INSTRUCTIONS)
3. A Web Browser to access the Group Homepage (which i will assume you have  )
I urge everyone with steam to sign-up and those without steam to get it and sign up.
Be sure to leave your comments/thoughts on this as we will most definitely be taking your opinions seriously as this is for the community itself. |

Im having trouble joining... How do i join? When i click on it in a web browser it does nothing and i dont know how to get to it on community  |

When you're at the site, login from there with your steam account. I had the same problem too. |

XFire - no where near as well known IMO.
I downloaded XFire... and saw it as nothing more than a pretty version of ICQ.
Uninstalled it and went back to using Trillian for ICQ/MSN. I have no intention of installing ANOTHER chat client. I only use Steam because the ability to just buy a game and download it kicks CENSORED Buy all my games there now because its just so damn convenient.
The friends thing is just a bonus... it'll never replace ICQ for me. |

Sorry about that, was one of the first things I did yesterday and it didn't even occur to me that people wouldn't know about it.

Thats ok ... this will be more then just a steam gaming HUB.
This will hopefully become a L4Y HUB which incorporates all games included in L4Y (and possible more)
Garner and Gexner can now edit the group page, make announcements, add events and give admin to those they feel need it. |

I like the way it connects L4Y people. Every steam user of L4Y should add himself to the L4Y group.This is also good for advertising this site (all your friends will see it), so please do it!

Yes, and steam supports only it's own games and xfire shows up pretty everything and is independent. XFire is the best "instant messaging" (it's not only that...by far) I've ever seen. No offence but people who say it's like ICQ (omg this got nothing for gamers..) didn't look close enough to it. The first thing a gamer needs is a proper away message of what he is playing, and xfire does that on its own, but this is just one of tons of special features.
I think Goober invited me into this program, and I'm really thankful for that  |
