Is there any way possible to rotate a brush more than 1 direction at a time? (like the Earth's rotation)
I need to get a brush to rotate 2 directions at once but haven't been able to figure out a way to do it. I'm not sure if it's even possible with RED, but I'd like to hope it is.
Also, for the exact same brush, is there anyway to get transparent textures to work on grouped brushes? I need it to be semi-transparent, but it doesn't seem to work when the brush is grouped...
Thanks in advance for any help. |

Yes there is, you have to make a seperate keyframe for the second rotation and add the first keyframe to the second group. |

The second keyframe...
To adress your other question, Transparency on movers is impossible without my method, a tutorial can be found on REDTECH i think... but theres also one in the tutorial section of this site |

Just found your Transparent Moving Brushes tutorial, and it worked flawlessly. Thank you so much!
I can't seem to get it rotate 2 directions at once though. I got it to rotate while orbiting, but that's about it.
I've tried both adding a second keyframe, and putting the brush in a second group with a keyframe, and not a salami. Could you give some kind of example or step by step instrctions? If it's not too much trouble, that is.
Edit: Nevermind. Twilight Spectre is explaing it to me. Thanks for all your help! |

I thought that's what you were looking for.
Indeed you can make a group of another mover. Just create a first mover then take all the brushes and objects of this gtoup and keyframe them.
But according to my experience you can't make them both rotate.
I tried in one of my maps but proved unable to do so. I ended up simulating one of the rotation moves by creating a path of keyframes in circle. |

The Technique to put keyframes on keyframes has always been there.
Lets take an example... Single player on Red Faction.
You remember the part where you have to board the weird futuristic train?
Well when you enter the train, the doors close then the train starts moving. That represents that the doors brush and keyframes are attached to the trains keyframes, Telling Red Faction that the doors must move with the train.
Here is a way you can do it.
First, go into Group mode and create your first keyframe on what ever it is you wish to move.
Then, if you want something else to move on the mover, then you only select that part and keyframe it again and name it something else.
Once you have done that, you have got to select the key frames for the 2nd one you made, go onto your movers list, select the other mover and click the button "Add To".
This will tell RED that those keyframes have to be with the other keyframes so when that one moves, the others will too.
So it is said, you can make make keyframes move with a mover |

You sir, are crazy.
This technique is a life saver. I don't know how you came across this either, but it works flawlessly! |
Acually, if everyone wants to hear the story...
I was working on a (never released) micro-map of my room and i loaded in the capek_rail group which is, of course, a detail brush. I then put a kind of grating texture on it... It was too big, so i tried to cut it. The cut wouldnt work of course because its a detail brush. When i made it a mover (for a no player collide) i played it and noticed that i had just gotten a transparent mover.... Thankfully i remembered how. I opened a blank file and tested it over and over again before posting it here. |

Turns out I still can't get it to work. I thought I did at on point, but I couldn't get it to work a second time, if it even did the first time.
Anyway, how are you guys adding keyframes from one group to another? It won't let me...
I created a brush, grouped it, keyframed it, created a second group with said brush, keyframed it, selected second group keyframe, and added to first group. Nothing happens.
I've also tried doing the same thing with grouping the first keyframe as a second group (rather than the brush again). It still doesn't work. |

Have you tried with a rotating mover and a non rotating mover because as i told you., 2 rotating keyframe probably won't work whereas a rotating mover inside a non rotating mover will work.
In my map tribute to a saucer i had a platform that moved in circle. There was a rotating helix under the platform. Is It that kind of thing you want to be done |

I just tried that and it still doesn't work.
What I'm trying to get is a stationary solid brush to rotate in 2 directions at the same like. Again, think of the earth's rotation.
What I want to try getting specifically is a clockwise rotation from front and top views.
Imagine spinning a ball by placing your hand on the right side and moving it to the left. Then while it's still spinning, hit it from the top going down. That causes it to spin in another direction while still rotating in the other. That's the effect I want. |

You mean the object must be spinning on itself like the earth and rotating around an axis (outside itself) like the earth is rotating around the sun? |

No, that's orbiting, I want it to be stationary, spinning in 2 directions.
Read the last paragraph of my last post for an example. |

yea but thats really the same concept in RED ... it just matters where you place your pivot point (the keyframe) ...
So wait ... you just select the sub- keyframe and make a new one ... i think i tried this before ... i always get the message "You cannot keyframe a keyframe!" ...
as for the doors ... i thought it was just a complex series of keyframes that run parallel to each other at the same time ... |

To add things to the group, it has to be selected as Brushes and/or objects within the map, then u select the group u want to add those brushes and objects to and click "Add To". |
