I can insert about 4-5 new clutter objects successfully into Red in separate custom folders before Red soon starts to play up and soon starts to become unstable.....

I inserted extra folders, Statutes, Space, Industry, Farm, Basic Shapes into the clutter tree list of the editor by making the new classnames folders and inserted the new clutter objects in them in the clutters tbl file..

But after a while as you keep adding in more clutter obects to the custom class folders, soon the game stops recognizing where the clutters are stored (they begin to
dissapear off the screen in the game, and then the game refuses to run at all
and crashes out to desktop...)

So much for customizing clutter folders.

So I guess all the new clutter objects have to all go into
the default folders in order to stop red from having a fit.

This game is coded poorly... Can't even customize
your own folders without the whole thing keeling over.

But it seems to be perfectly fine when adding in custom textures
to the default texture folders.
Red limits breached?, Yep, (20,000 fces and its still going !)

Red Faction has it's limits set absoluteley EVERYWHERE.
Clutter.tbl is limited to a specific amount of entries.
My tip is to ALWAYS only add new clutter on the very bottom line of clutter.tbl. This makes sure you won't be "deleting" other clutter that is beyond the limits and thus will not be recognized at all.
You will then be able to see if you hit the limit or not..when your new clutter isnt listed
The trick is to remove commented lines out of the clutters.tbl and remove unused clutter from it to "push the limit".
Also if you work on a mod, and you never will use the tree in any of your maps because its a space mod, you can just replace it with a different mesh.

Keep in mind that I said the limits are everywhere, they are for every tbl file, vclip, explosion, weapons...always add stuff at the bottom line. Easy to find and doesn't really matter to the game performance.

Thanks Red Frog for that info, I will add my entries down below. And not within the clutter tbl... And delete all the company comments out of it.

I got my clutter tbl to 173k filesize before the table file started to play up
and refuse to load my maps but now I understand the issue.

You should write out all the limits that you know about this game Red Frog, it would make very interesting reading for the rest of us to learn what all the limits are and not make these mistakes to help us better understand why the game plays up so easily when we
try to do things with it or customize things in it....

It would've been more user-friendly had they put more error messages in the code so that when there was a limit issue, not just with the basic limits but these other kinds of limits that a window would pop up and explain what the issue is and why. But they didn't do that
instead they just let the game engine crash out to desktop without any error message.

Im not sure what you mean by custom decals... You can just add a new texture and put it on a decal

Speaking of the clutter.tbl, the only way ISM will run on a Mac is with the clutter.tbl and vclip.tbl removed.

Also, if you break 144 windows in a map while in game - it will crash to the desktop.
I have suffered in real life for the past couple years, now its your turn!

144 Windows smashed all at once, and the game crashes.

I'm surprised it didn't blow out your speakers !

Well I did a quick map, a ridiculous 2424 thousand foot height, a free-fall map. But The game only allows you to free fall for a very short time. But the engine handled it..
