Hey,
I'm running Windows XP, yesterday my computer was fine, and today my wireless internet conection drops every 5 minutes, then when i try to reconnect its saying he cant find any wireless networks, and when i rescan again, i get my wireless network again with 80 % conectivity, and im conected again, then it starts over. sometimes there is a half hour between things, sometimes 20 seconds.
I'm using a Linksys wireless router WMP54G and a wireless pci card, also from linksys. could it be my card is broken? and if so. does it matter what wireless card i buy? its a dekstop pc btw. |

I have a Linksys router as well WRG54G I think (off the top of my head), and a Wii, laptop and desktop all using the wireless.
The Wii and laptop have absolutely no troubles at all whist the desktop occasionally throws its toys out of the pram by disconnecting, finding the connection, disconnecting, finding the connection...etc....etc... every 5-6 seconds. Solution? I used to reset the router itself which solved the problem but since learned that simply disabling the wireless card on the PC and re-enabling it sorts it out perfectly everytime without causing trouble with the rest of the network.
Best bit? The Wii/laptop dont have Linksys stuff in and obviously work fine. The desktop wireless card that has troubles? Linksys.
I have no problem recommending Linksys routers, they're the best by far in my experience - but not Linksys wireless cards.
On a semi side note... strangely Cisco have decided to stop the Linksys brand I believe and slap the Cisco name on everything which strikes me as a dumb decision... Cisco says 'enterprise networking' not 'home networking' but anyway... they're the ones with more money than sense |

The only thing I can think of would be interference. Wireless standards are designed to cut out if another wireless protocol uses the same frequency. This includes things like cell phones, cordless phones, and other wireless devices. These problems occur even more often on older wireless standards (like A and . To fix it you need to access your router and change the wireless channel. This changed the frequency your wireless network works on. |

Assman - I tried several channels before realising that simply disabling/enabling the card was all I needed to do. Its something I've come to live with now... the desktop doesn't get used all that often anymore anyway. |

Well, to me the problem sounded like it was related to the frequency, but I guess not. I don't really have any other idea to fix it. |

Microwaves and bluetooth devices will also sometimes interfere with wi-fi.
Like yourself though, not sure about 'n' though so that one might not matter so much. |
