Posted Feb 26th, 09:57am by Garner It hasn't escaped a few of you that the site has been struggling over the past week or so. An influx in a few sections (noteably UT/UT2004) plus the extreme downtime of the Red Faction master tracker (latest news : try again on Monday according to THQ) has seen a lot more traffic than usual on the site. So a few 'extras' have been dropped in order to speed things up. The site poll has been disabled. Hot Topics, News, Reviews all cut to 5 latest instead of 10. CDC Project of the Moment disabled. So I cant yet say what it'll be like From Unified 4's point of view, it'll probably remain like this now. This site code wasn't expected to take this number of visitors (the phrase 'wildest dreams' springs to mind ) so isn't dealing so well with the increased traffic. This code is 2 years old back from when we were were getting around 1 million page views every 2 months approx as opposed to the 1 million every 2 weeks or so we're getting now. Things have to change in order to keep things rolling! I really dont like the changes here. It may be nessicary, but it really cuts back on alot of L4Y's features. The Hot Topics is only needed to see whats changed in the last few minutes. ferrit - new site requires registration to download already for precisely that reason. Raping files is an understatement. Each month the fileserver transfers the equivalent all the files available on the site slightly more than 27 times over. In real figures thats approximately 1.4 - 1.5Tb per month.
