Account now required for downloading...
Posted Mar 2nd, 07:03pm by Garner
After seeing our poor fileserver transfer 1.5Tb of data in a month (), for the past 3 months () we've restricted downloading to registered users.

Registering for an account is free and simple, once you've got your account you can use any of the features on the site such as the Community Development Centre or the Forums.

Go on, join the community!

Good idea. But though it will restrict the downloading only to registered users, I hope they just don't register just to download, but to also coerce and frolic within the forums as well.

i hope so too because i want to raise my post count im bored and uhh.... nothing else

Well I can see that its helping. For probably the first time in forever, there are more members on than guests. 18 members and 14 Guests....

Would it not be a good idea then to go through the members list and delete the ones who have never bothered with the site. It will not only free up a small amount of space but also help give a general idea of who's using the site regulary. I know it would be a big job, so I am now thinking to myself would it be worth it

There isnt really that much point in deleting some user accounts I don't think. The freed space would be tiny, and of no real gain to the site.

Not only it frees space but it should like people say, bring more depth in the community, depending on who's better off spending time in different discussion Forums. L4Y should welcome the sort who praises everything, highly enthusiastic players who crave something exciting.

How does deleting users bring more depth to the community?

The way I see it, If I see a forum with 10 members, I'm not going to join because I know no discussion will come up. Although one wqith 12,000 members has to have some good discussions going on!

Some of these accounts may be used in the future, and people may not decide to sing up again if their account is deleted.

And as i said before, deleting a few accounts hardly frees any space. Nothing worth doing anyway

I can never see the Spam thread going....think we are all waiting to see how long it will take to get to 1000 page mark. Quite a bit to go.

Reasonably, the user restriction is a gud idea... the thing that made this site better was removing the upload size restriction. Not many people can get files they want everyone to see to a small size .

but overall tho, this site is going to show alot of users joining to get files and that. It will be amazing how many users will sign up... How many users are they altogether who have signed up garner ?

Is the new version going to have a "can't remember my password" function? I know when I first joined a couple of years ago, I forgot my password and ended up signing up under a different name.

Helping to what?
Can we know what was the point in increasing the number of registered users?
