A game to movie conversion. An all time great FPS game(s) Doom series will have a movie made along the Doom storyline of hell brought to earth through a portal which was best portrayed in Doom 3.

Long-delayed silver screen adaptation is delayed some more

The next major game to movie conversion, Universal Pictures' adaptation of id Software's classic first person shooter DOOM, has been pushed back by several months - and is now set to appear in cinemas in October.

The film was formerly expected to appear in late June in North America, but Universal's website confirms a report on horror movie website Bloody-Disgusting.com that it has swapped places with George Romero's next zombie movie, Land of the Dead. Romero, of course, is also working on a forthcoming videogame with British developer Kuju Entertainment.

Little information has been released as yet about the DOOM movie, which was in Hollywood "development hell" for many years before it was picked up by Universal and director Andrej Barkowiak.

The film is believed to be set in more contemporary times than the sci-fi games, and focuses on a viral outbreak rather than an invasion from Hell - much to the annoyance of fans of the videogame series.

Dwayne Johnson, better known as The Rock, plays a leading role in the movie, alongside Karl Urban (Lord of the Rings, The Bourne Supremacy) and Rosamund Pike (Die Another Day, The Libertine)

The Rock sucks...

I will probably boycott this movie solely because the Rock is in it. That other dude Karl Urban is pretty cool though, he was the Lead rider of Rohan in LOTR: the two towers.

EDIT

I just found out the Rock is playing "sarge" and is not taking the lead role.. whew... what a relief man.

Karl Urban is playing the lead of John Grim...

It is annoying that they have changed how it all starts. I mean a viral outbreak?!?!? It's not bloody Resident Evil

Well it better be good otherwise i will be very disappointed

Most game to movie conversions are really crap, as said by Steve-O. Resident Evil 1 & 2 were ok but lacked the scariness.

Tomb raider was rubbish because in the games you fought dinosaurs and other animals and mystical things and solving puzzles but with the movies all she fought was stupid people and she never actually went into a tomb!!

Mario was another movie conversion. Put it this way.... it sucked!!

Mortal Kombat, another big let down.

Streetfighter anyone.... that was terrible, I dont think Ive ever seen it right through, Kylie Monogue was a plus but thats about it...

I liked the Mario movie, cos I was like 11 or 12 when it came out

Mortal Kombat was OK, nothing special.

Resident Evil was good entertainment, the second one was pure cheese.... Nemesis becoming a good guy at the end...

Ive not got high hopes for Doom but lets hope a miracle happens.

God i forgot all about Streetfighter

I think the main reason why game to movie conversions arn't really that good is because the film makers don't keep to the storyline of the actual game.

but if you think about it, if they keep to the game, then we would all know what happens next so the directors have to try something different and 99% of the time, it dosen't work

I don\'t mean follow the exact storyline.

E.g. Doom

The storyline is that your on a Mars space station and it get\'s overun by Hell. That is the basic structure of the game. I mean if they did follow the exact things that happened in the game then at the cinema everyone will be going \"When he turns the next corner a fire demon is going to crawl out of the service tunnel and fire a flame ball at him\"

So what the film makers need to do is follow the cut-scene\'s of the games, as they are the things that follow the storyline.

Well technically Doc if they followed the ORIGINAL storyline of Doom, well...there wouldnt be much story (i.e. The Doom novels...read em).

Also, the storyline to the "updated" Doom 3...well isnt quite a fantastic thing, hence The Rock (go back to wrestling!) starring in it.

Still, I'm looking foward to this one. I wanna see if the Spider Demon makes an appearence

In reality it is old news, look at the date. I didn't post it here for specific reasons earlier
