Ok, I saved my newly made map, and now it is giving me an error. I know it's a texture, so I removed it from my textures folder, still errors, I tried renaming a GOOD texture, still errors, I removed all my 0Kb files, still errors, tried extracting an old version of the map, still errors, I don't know what to do!!!!

Here is the error :

"Error: Cannot determine bitmap type in bm_read_header for file -------texture name---------.tgFtmLo}4
File: C:\PROJECTS\RF_PC\VSDK\bmpman\bmpman.cpp - Line: 1151

A critical error has occurred and the program cannot continue.
Press OK to exit the program."

HELP PLEASE!

you removed all 0 kb files. OK
Now remove all the files in your map folder and from anywhere you stored your custom maps and put them somewhere else.
Start RED

Put back the files one by one in your map folder, starting with the latest version of your latest map

Hope that will help

Well, it's a texture, so the only thing I can think of is to open the map and remove the texture...but I can't open it to do that, any workarounds? Cuz I can get one of my older versions of the map, but it's lost like 8 hours of creation time. reinstalling RF wouldn't work, i know that.

Think the maps gone for good. Thats an error you get when you use a texture with a really long name. I don't think your ever gonna get the map open because it'll always be looking for that texture even if you remove it from your textures folder, but never be able to read it because of the long file name, cuz its already applied to a face in the map and I don't think theres anything you can do about it. Thats why its always good to make lots of backups at different stages of building the map that way if 1 file doesnt open you can open an earlier version of the map before it got the error.

Me thinks IAC has got it right.

You've fallen victim to the many bugs/downfalls/failures of the RED editor

As frustrating as it is, don't feel bad/discouraged, it happens (has happened) to the best of us

Ya, I just cooled down for a few hours from RED Ed. and starting on a new one. I'm pretty far, since I remember how I created/moved everything, so it's moving along pretty quickly (thank God! lol)

Thanks for all the help everyone! ^_^

Just as a general rule of thumb i have for myself... I save all my levels as a different filename (eg. dm-goodmap01.rfl, dm-goodmap02.rfl etc...) every 15 minutes or so. This time may change depending on how much work i have done... But my harddrive is about 20% rfl files due to this method

Or you can just have that auto-save feature checked off, or should I say checked on.
Then again, that method produces way too many levels with the tilde(~) font after it.
What I use to do is create a level pack file and then compress it so that they editor didn't touch my saved one. That method saved me from having to start a level over one time. I had a hole that I couldn't get rid of and I needed to go back to the previous version that didn't have it.

It actually doesn't matter anymore, because I installed a new OS, and my maps were on my external hard drive, and for some reason (without telling it to ) it formatted my Ext. HD, with over 230 GB over a course of 1 1/1 yrs was formatted. I'm so angry, I could almost cry!

But I don't cry, so I punch stuff

I was actually to the point of "Total Urination" of my laptop when this came down. But everything is ok, I'll just either make it again or say screw it and make another.
