Well long time since I got here, but just to let you all know. I am working on a mod, its a culmination of previous work and new. Around 10 DM maps and around 6 CTF maps already done, some SP done but need to work on those.

And most importantly I have been in max....

Say hello to...

ROBERTO!

Anyone recognise him?

He is boned, just moving onto the Weighting...

BTW, if anyone is around that knows some stuff, got a problem. My bones shrink as though they have been squashed when I go to select Vertices under RF_Bone modifier. Any suggestions? Re-done the Trackview/Dope sheet 2 times now incase that was the CENSORED up. Wondering if it might be the Spine?

Using 1 for the top chest, 3 for the bending segment and 1 for the Crotch ( LOL!) Listed as follows:

BDBN-Stabby-Root
BDBN-Stabby-Abdomen01
BDBN-Stabby-Abdomen02
BDBN-Stabby-Abdomen03
BDBN-Stabby-Crotch

Sorry. just love I had to use crotch as a bone name lol! Should they be BDBN-Stabby-Spine instead? Gimme details if you can guys. and a lovely drawing if possible too!

Yay, Futurama! As for your problem, try renaming the "abdomen" bones to "spine." I'm not sure it'll fix your problem, but "spine" is the naming convention the developer said to use.

Cheers bud. I did wonder. its been REALLY difficult doing this as the only references I have for Character creation is Chat logs with SKA over MSN, and the Trackview section had no info at all as he showed my via a webcam! LOL.

Will try that when I get home.

As long as I can get a good frame still or resource picture I dont see why not. I just did roberto as I thought he was relatively easier compared to any Character I have set out to make.

Gonna try try renaming the bones to Spine after College as I had work last night.

**UPDATE**

I renamed the bones above the Root to Spine01, Spine 02 etc... Still going weird.

The bones from his waist up, all squash together still.

The legs are fine but thats it. Im doing everything exactly how I did before, only difference is the additional bones being added.

Make sure your numbers in RFBone add up correctly. Each bone should have a sum total of 100, period. I've had cases where I couldn't figure out what was wrong for the longest time, then going back and finding poor numbering and/or blank spaces.

Cheers for the help Assman, unfortuantly this happens BEFORE i even apply weights, I just click the RF-Bone--->Vertices selection within the modifier window and it does this, before adding any weights.

Tried 3 times to re-do everything. Only thing I havent tried is re-making all of the bones, I started from a step past that, I have retried 3 times with the bones already in place, and start by naming the bones.

^ Roberto with bones inplace

^Same shot, just bones

Now, I finish doing the track view, reset Xform, (have tried with an without Xform) Apply RFbone, Add Bones, Expand RFbone, Select Vertices... and BAM! They go like this

^ Hmmmm

^ In comparison to the original picture.

Im getting so annoyed at this, just one step away from getting a proper character into RF, I have only previously got a Cubeman in (who may make it into the final Mod if requested enough!) Roberto is my most complete, and most detailed character ever, and im being held back.

Im wondering if its to do with his leg positions? Traditionally they shouldn't be like that, but I don't see why that should make any difference.

Wondering if its due to this:

His limbs (Head in this case) deform when being rotated. It only happens to a few bones, and not all the time, depends on what way the rotation occurs. The Head ALWAYS deforms when being rotated Up/Down.

Help guys! Please, Im so desperate to get this working.

THIS IS BEFORE ANY WEIGHTING HAS TAKEN PLACE

When you were making your bones were any of them copied and pasted? When you copy and paste a bone it makes that pasted bone deform and completely useless. You have to make each and every bone from scratch. Other than that, I can't think of anything that could be causing this...

Hmm, howed i miss this thread? Oh, i know. Beat must be too proud to ask me for help... j/k

Before I even start, you were duplicating bones to create them faster wrent you? RF bone dun like that. Although there are a few workarounds.

Ok, beat, try this.

1. Select all the bones
2. Unlink all the bones
3. Individually select every bone and reset its xform(its in the utility panel to right of modifiers)
4. Collapse all the bones back to edible mesh
5. Re-link the heiarchy
6. Add RF bone.

If all else fails, select the entire bone heiarchy, export it as a 3ds file. delete the bone structure, import the 3ds file weld back all the verts to the bones to make it clean. Doing this takes forever but it cleans up the geoemetry. Dont forget to reset the xform after.

A little food for thought while weighting verts. make sure none of the weights on a single vertice exceed 100, although you may do so it will cause problems. If that does not work then PM me the model and i can get it in working order.

Naming bones shouldnt be a problem and doesnt really matter. Although whenever I make a bone heiarchy for RF it is always something simmilar to: BDBN-ROFL-Bonename. Replace ROFL with a 3-4 letter abbriveation of the model.

Also a little tip while naming. When you have multiple bones that are part of the same part of the body, lets take the legs for example, then name them something simmilar to: BDBN-XXXX-Leg01, BDBN-XXXX-Leg02, etc... Naming things that have at least one thing in common should be done so for whatever they have in common first. So they are listed right next to eachother and easy to find in an alphebital order.

Cheers D.

That sounds like good help, I do believe I copied and pasted the bones, was about 2 weeks ago now and Im extremely forgetful. I will try that then. Luckily I have several save states, so instead of Unlinking the etc, I will just start from the save BEFORE I put the bones in. Guess I should have gone back that one extra step, lol.

Will give this ago. thanks guys you have both been a big help. got a new Robot to go with Roberto in the works too. I hate creating the TGAs though im rubbish at it. I swear I dont do it right, you know UV Unwrap or whatever it is.
