Umm how do i do this? I have a coal cart on a railway track and a couple of turns in the track, I first done the mover to move the cart through the track.

But when I do the second mover and set of keyframes (to turn the coal cart around the track), when I set rotation on the keyframes, the rotation arrow only shows up on the gold keyframe and not on all the silver ones.

So there is a problem. It stays on the gold keyframe

Does this mean I have to do dozens of different movers of the coal cart and then insert in a gold keyframe rotation for each segment?

I'm not sure how to do it and need help. need to see how its set up to work if someone has got it working.

can someone tell me how to make my coal cart turn around the tracks?
Red limits breached?, Yep, (20,000 fces and its still going !)

Contact Goober, he worked on a replica of the Half-Life tram and it turned out well. He probably knows more about that type of mover than anyone else here.

I could've sworn that was you... Glad to hear HLF is still active, though. I guess you should contact Spikey then, Enforce.

Spikeys tram didn't exactly require a complex turning system, The tram would stop.. turn 90 degrees and then start moving again....My system turns WHILE moving..

I did alot of experimenting with turning trams myself using different methods.. I saw glitches / bugs within RF I'd never imagined before.. There isn't alot much else I can see at this time.. It's been months since I've done anything with RED, But I intend to change that.. So I will let you know If I discover any results.

Edit- I had a helicopter with transparent moving glass and item pickups on board
you press a button.. the blades start spinning and the helicopter goes up about 30 metres

you press the button again and the whole helicopter "was supposed to" lean foward and then fly foward for 50 metres..

but it glitches pretty bad

i didn't play too much with it because I would have had to restart from scratch basically , since the problem I thought was to do with the helicopter brushes ect..

i probably still have to rfl

indeed i have

its an intense system

much more complex than spikeys i would suspect

if the chopper only held together properly

Edit - Tweaked a bit and Tested and It works good... My MSN is hc_ninja@hotmail.com for RFL file and further information if wanted.

Ninja - You are incorrect there. Spikeys moves while rotating on the track.

Yeah but to be entirely accurate Spikeys Tram rotated only while moving straight downwards... Where as I think we want the tram to rotate appropiately while Its moving horizontally... (just my observations)

Incorrect again - Curved track portions are used.

I have seen that tram level and yes it does rotate while moving along the track both horizontally and vertically. Although i seem to have misplaced it. Pretty good job by spikey to see it used properly. Although if you aren't careful you can create player clipping problems. Due to RF's poor mover collision detection.

Lol, ninja always trying to impress because he thinks he is the ultimate gruru of Red Faction... Although he may deny it. i have a strong feeling its true. You know there are other games that you can apply those skills to. Rather than spending years trying to find workarounds for stuff see exactly how much you can push the poor 2002 RF engine... foolish...

If you want to impress with small useless details you usually toss in your posts; then learn how to use the RF toolkit. Then you will have a whole lot more words to throw at the people who dont know (or care) what they mean.

How about being a bit more specific young man.. As that does not explain a whole lot.

You are a tool.. Why would I use RF toolkit?

I am a inspiring Mapping artist.. Not some guy with too much time on his hands.. and No I'm NOT still trying to figure out work-arounds and new techniques as I feel I have accomplished enough for my liking.. But any chance there was of me using RF toolkit is now gone, as You are the tool..

Ohh well I tend to agree with D2k on this , I mean anyone that makes a map called DM- Perfection , is just full of them self's .( It was far from Perfect) Anyway That's my opinion! , Trying to out do someone with skills in RF ED , is just kidding yourself , STOP Trying to be the *Best* and do your BEST is my way of thinking,,,,,, Take it or leave it !

I thought it was obvious.

In case it wasnt:
Using Spikeys system, the one mover system for 1 tram goes down a straight track, turns (while still moving forward), goes straight again, turns again and then goes down.

To sum up: Your method MAY work, i don't even know yet... but Spikeys does.

I prefer to stick to the dead simple things, instead of using complicated methods.

The tram does roate while moving. How? Simply like this:

The tram I made has 2 types of movers applied to it. One mover is the path the tram will follow on the track and even around the bend.

The second mover is the roatation mover, this mover is seperate from the path mover, its just one keyframe with Rotation set to 90 Degrees and is triggered with a delay event.

In order, the first thing i did was make the rotating mover on the tram. Once that was done, I secondly done the trams path, with having the roation mover selected...

So the rotating mover is added to the path aswell since its part of the tram now.

Then simply trigger the rotating mover with a delay event.

Delay used for when the tram is "Suppose" to turn.
I shall show a video demostration of this tonyt when I get bk from work.

The video will show from Half-Life Faction

I have nearly 10 years now of mapping on and off (more off than on ) and I feel I have sooooooooooo much to learn for instance today I made a glass tunnel in the middle of my map that you can swim through and see through and the other players can run pass you and see you through the glass. May not sound like much but its still new to me. Do not ever feel like you have learnt enougth or you will nver get better. Thats like making the PS1 and saying well its better than the megadrive I will never have to make a better console.

The editor red could be used for years to come to make better and better levels just like some people still make games for spectrums. ok it may not be mainstream and more advance software is out there but red has not reached its potential and probably never will do. A couple of years from now somebody will work out how to put jeeps etc in MP levels (please trotski work that out ) and bots etc, maybe not for 20 years who knows but hey if people keep working at it then it can be done.
