First off, I want to clarify that this is not in any way piracy - I don't want any games or any account information.
Now that that is out of the way, I am afflicted with this problem, which Valve is ignoring completely - see this thread for more - http://forums.steampowered.com/foru...d.php?t=622489.
As a result, every time there is a Steam update, I can't play my games any more until somebody does me this favour.
What I'd like someone to do, if possible, is to make a zip of your Steam directory, (ie, C:\Program Files\Steam) but NOT INCLUDING the SteamApps directory where all the games and your account stuff is kept. To be on the safe side and make sure I'm not getting your account info, feel free to log out of Steam first and tell it not to remember your info. All I need is a zip file containing the Steam client after the latest update, since the updates refuse to work for me.
If someone could do this and upload it to mediafire, or rapidshare, or somewhat, I'd be eternally in your debt. I don't have any friends who use Steam, so I can't hit up any gamer mates. You're welcome to PM me the link so that it doesn't get posted for everyone to see if you want, and if you use mediafire you can even delete it again after I've downloaded.
If someone could do this that would be great. Cheers. If you're concerned if I can be trusted, I'm sure there are many users who will vouch for me here - plus, to the best of my knowledge, there is no way for me to get your account info out of there anyway as long as you don't include the SteamApps folder. The zip should only be about ten megs, probably less. |

steam REALLY sucks!
....just uninstall steam...completely...and reinstall it again.
Steam is not only installed in your program files folder, you#ve got to search for the bits. Just erase it. |

Everywhere I ask for this favour, and I get this sort of response...
No, I'm not using Pacsteam, digital_ruler. Updates just don't work for normal Steam. It's a documented problem for some slower connections, seemingly random connection drops from the Valve content servers.
Redfrog: Yes, Steam, really does suck. Yes, I have already tried the reinstalling many times. Trust me, I've tried about every fix short of pirating the thing.
Molodiets: Yes, I have come across the url tag at various points in my travels, thankyou for your question. |

You sir are a legend. I'm just downloading now.
Assuming this is current, I know it does work - that's how I got past the second most recent Steam update |

Unfortunately, after the most recent sitewide redesign we lost the ability to post a soupe site-wide. They are done on a per section basis, and you had to be on staff for each section to have posting rights, and you had to post to each individually rather than posting once and having it pushed out to all sections where you have rights. It was all a little overly difficult.
EDIT:
YES!!!! I have my Orange Box back again! Thank you ever so much, Lord Seafood! |

Heh. You can take full credit for me just then finishing Episode 2. Amazing ending. Amazing game in general - the Half Life 2 series, that is. |
