What ever happened to the Soupe Du Mois Threads? I know that it was something on L4Y a long time ago but its been a while since ive seen one ...
To be honest, i don't even know what "Soupe Du Mois" mean't but i enjoyed reading the threads in that section (i tried translating it but all i got was "soup of the month ) ... I think its kinda like the expression "food for thought" ... Anywho ...
Why did it die? |

Those articles have always been to hard to read for me.
Lots of them have been made.
And if I remember correctly, they were mostly done by people (contortionists) like Mono, Kiliad and perhaps NoClanFrank.. I can't remember the others, but if you feel missed, write down a post below to get yourself a credit
They seem to get tired of writing those...which would be the reason why they are not there anymore. |

I love the Soupe Du Mois!
I believe it is "soup of the month" however in terms of making sense, think of it as "Flavour of the month"
I loved the series Mono wrote about visiting various countries. Hilarious!
I believe Tricord wrote a few. (what ever happened to Tri )
I remember one in particular which really struck a chord with me about A program that Made every possible image in the world.
I believe the example of 16 Colours, on a 64x64 Avatar. there are 16 possible colour combinations for each pixel. Thing is though, if you were to look through you would find a Picture of the letter A in there somewhere. And all of our Avatars would also be in there (Colours may be off)
I salute you guys.
Loved thinking about the theories surrounding most the Soupes. Bring back the Soupes!
(also loved Poll of the Week/Month) |

the feature was dear to Tricord (it was his idea). Most of the time, the item was writen by mono.
Lack of motivation, lack of inspiration I guess. A kind of edito that wasn't related to videogames anyway. Sort of irrelevant.
Soupe du mois is indeed french for soup of the month.
In french slang that would rather be translated by "tripes of the month" or "tasteless, watery topic of the month" |

This thread is making me hungry for soup... In all seriousness, though, this sounds interesting. I must not have been around while this was going on, but it sounds like something I'd like to have resurrected. |

It died because people stopped writing them. If anybody wants to write one, I'm sure we'd all love to read it. |

I doubt we have many, the backups from back then are long gone. If they're not here on the site they're probably lost forever
The original feature was 'Soupe Du Jour' and was intended to be a thought provoking post once a day on the front of the site. Originally used on PlanetDescent when Tricord was in charge there (PD used to run Unified 1 before Gamespy figured they wanted all their sites to be ASP not PHP) it was a popular feature.
RedFactionPlanet (run by Tricord again but domain name owned by me) also had the same feature. L4Y also picked it up when we started to use Unified (V1.6 if memory serves) however we didn't have the PD genius that created the soupes on a daily basis and the feature stagnated.
It got so bad that during one of the site updates I renamed it to Soupe Du Mois... simply because that was about as often as it was actually being updated |

I Love Keith Richards
By Mono at 12:43am - Edited by Mono on 28th Jan 2004 12:45am
Keith Richards. Plays for the Rolling Stones, you know. You name it, he's smoked it. Now, the other day I was discussing him with my friends.
How has this man survived as long as he has? I think it is pretty much a fact that one takes for given that hard drugs are bad for you - cocaine, heroin, etc. But I, being the enlightened child I am, have figured out how his indomnitable body manages to withstand the beating he hands it. Simple.
[Keith] Oooooh, I'll try some of this, baby.
[Dealer] Wait a...
{snort}
[Keith] Whoah...
[Dealer] It's Anthrax
[Keith] Whoah... All right!
Keith is not really human. He is one large amalgamation of miscellaneous powders and substances. And therein lies also the secret to the Stones hypnotic performances - as little bits of Keith drift out onto the audience, Mick's pouting lips become more and more enticing...
As you reel out of the concert, in a drug induced haze {possibly to give the closest possible to a Stones recording studio experience}, you feel a strange compulsion drawing you back.... Just think, that night, you got more of Keith than you bargained for. |

Maybe you aren't so old skool after all. He has been here even before I was here.
Garner and him basically, kinda sorta, started levels4you.com. Well he had RedFactionPlanet.com, which is how I found this site after it merged with levels4you.com. |

I also wish there would be more product reviews as well ...
There was one about an R/C Battle Tank a while ago that shot little BB's that i think garner wrote ... although i don't think it ever caught on |
