Both the Logitech G5 and the Logitech MX518 are good choices IMO.

The DeathAdder was among the top for infrared sensor, but Razer reworked their mistakes on lasers with the Razer Lachesis. However, keep in mind the DeathAdder itself has issues just like any other mouse, and is known to have SERIOUS firmware issues in certain games. But once you find a good firmware or the latest one that works well, the DeathAdder is a great choice.

If you want the best, most, if not all prefer the Microsoft IntelliMouse 1.1 or Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0(The new, not the old), simply for the fact that most of the pro players had used the 1.1 when it was around as the best to be, and the newer MIE 3.0 brings back the old 1.1 feel. The good point to grabbing a MIE 3.0 is the sensor at the standard 450dpi cannot be matched by even the Lachesis or DeathAdder.

If you want an "overall" great gaming mouse, I'd have to say the Logitech MX518, Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0, or Razer Deathadder. I recently switched back to the MX518 as I used to use, but still have my 3.0 if I need it. Keep in mind the DeathAdder is an ambidextrious mouse, if you are into purchasing it, thus can be used with either left or right hand.

I have used Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0, Logitech MX 518 and am recently using the Microsoft Sidewinder mouse. Go and try different mouses in a shop, and then chose the one that fits your hand and playing style best

Maybe this is why im soo bad at RF...

Ive just got a bog standard mouse, dont know who its made by either. got it in a "computer set" Set contained:

Newcastle United Mouse (got a little floating football in the back, problem is the water gets out when it gets hot )
Newcastle United MouseMat
Newcastle United Cd Wallet
5 Newcastle United CD-Rs

I need a better mouse it gets all slippy when the water/fluid comes out.

omg trash is this a ball mouse?
I've played RF several years using a ball mouse, and I could easily keep up with the good players, however, after the change to optical I felt the improvement. (not at the very start, though ) lol but it took some time until I got as good with the optical as I've been with the ball one.
Get a new mouse trasher

there is no best mouse, just use what feels good to you, it wont make much of a difference.
ive got an ms intelli 3.0 myself

Untrue, dependant on game and style player you are, a mouse can have a major impact on your game performance, and if you play competitively, you will see why. Also a good mousepad(Though may sound stupid) can help you too. I personally own the SteelSeries QcK Heavy. I've was told by fr0d and a few others it'd be stupid for me to go with another mousepad that will last. Tried it, and love it.(Cloth is great)

The problem I had with the 3.0 when switching back and forth to my girlfriend's MX518 and my 3.0 awhile back, was the main fact of the 518 not having a negative acceleration per faster movement, whereas with the 3.0, the faster you move it, the slower it moves. Kinda the opposite of Windows MouseAcceleration.

My suggestion namely for mice, is to find one that has EXACTLY what you are looking for. I would also like to point out while on the subject of mouse accel that the DeathAdder at any DPI higher than 450(900, 1800) you will see negative mouse acceleration. You will only see that with laser mice such as DeathAdder, G5, etc. (Note the DeathAdder still being grouped with lasers).

But if you are able, or have a friend with these mice being talked about, go test. If you like the feel of it and the way it reacts to your movements, then go for it. Do not take these statements above as marking down on any kind of mice, just statements so you will know beforehand.

A 2000 dpi, omg, very cool. I love the weight cartridge in the G5 too.....you guys might be convincing me to change over the mouse I use now.

Eh... Not to sound like I'm adverting anything... But....
The Razer Lachesis boasts an 4,000DPI 3G Laser.

Also, having high dpi doesn't mean an entirely huge amount. Just dependant on if you yourself are a high dpi user, etc. Plus, I don't think there is a current game out that can manage both fast hand movement + high dpi atm. Meaning you will get negative acceleration. Because of the way the game was programmed.

That sounds quite lame ... personally i would like a 5 button mouse that has 2 buttons on each side ... sort of like this one except better

i need a mouse upgrade too ... i used a regular windows mouse for a long time and ive probably burned through 3 of em

personally, i just want one that won't die

but to be honest, ive got bigger fish to fry ... i need a new backpack, new calculator, some new headphones, new PC, new... everything

the backpack i have now is stitched together with notebook wire
