Got mine just before Xmas.... you've got me beat by 6 inches.... can only fit 90" across my wall
Unit says its good for up to 3 meters (thats 120 inches give or take for those of you still using imperial measurements) I laugh at people with their 48" TV's thinking their TV is big
lol
Didn't bother with a screen, got a white wall already so didn't see any point in getting one
That a Wii I see on the left Skip? Got mine connected to the projector as well and its bloody obvious how bad a non HD signal is compared to HD.
Movie nights rock btw. Friends + Popcorn + Home Cinema = the win. lol |

Yeah that is a wii gathering dust there
Watched a movie on it last night. Was awesome!!
I'm wondering how long the bulb is going to last for though. Says 2000-3000 hours with the model I have. |

Same, at 2000 hours it'll pop up a warning telling you you need to think about getting a new one. Mine will then remind me again at 2500 and I think then everytime you turn it on until you reach 3000 hours when it'll turn itself off.
Plasma screens degrade over time (colours fade) which requires you to replace the TV every 5 years or so, projectors just need a new bulb every 2 years or so (at my usage anyway). A new bulb weighs in at about £100 a pop but the alternative is having one explode in the unit and costing £800 worth of damage.
You can gain an extra year or so by turning on the econ mode - on mine that lowers the light output by about a third so not so good during the day but fine at night (or with the blinds shut) but in return every 1 hour its on only counts for 40 minutes of bulb time so worth it in the long run.
Skip - like me you'll probably find yourself thinking 'must turn it off' - I dont turn it on and leave it on in the background like I might have done in the past - if I have the Xbox playing music I'll set it up and then turn the screen off. Saves the planet and all that as well |

Heh yeah I do find myself aware of turning it off when not in use. Thats a good thing I guess
Its proving to be one of the best things I have brought for this room now. What was a computer room is now like a home cinema but with better quality picture!
Just moved everything around. So I have PC desk, bookcase on one wall, HD samsung LCD tv with wii and 360 connected then obviously some seating. And one wall just for the projector screen. I tried using it just against the wall. But using a pull down screen makes the picture look a lot sharper.
Now I just need some black out sheets
Oh and the projector unit itself is on a shelf, cant ceiling mount it because this room has slanted ceiling. The 360 for the projector is sitting under my computer desk.
G, How did you connect your Wii to the projector? mine is over the other side of the room. Doesn't the sensor bar need to be near the "screen"? As I say I have a 360 near the unit itself on the other side of the room. How would it work with the wii?
Take a tour of my room |

I looked at getting a projector but decided on a 40" sony bravia it was a decision of quality over quantity. well that and a lack of monies and space and the thougth of 8 foot of my wall being taken up with my missis watching coronation street. perhaps I should dump the wife and kids and get a projector, now theres an idea |

RedFrog - in my case it was called the 'xmas bonus is burning a hole in my back pocket'
I dont know what Vibes paid for his TV but going off the Sony prices...
40", 720p/i, 1080p/i, Front Surround - £1,139.00 inc. VAT
My 90", 720p/i, 1080p/i, 5.1 Surround Sound - around £1080 inc. VAT
That included the projector itself (£700), extension cables (£30), ceiling mount kit for the projector (£100!) and seperate 500W amp/sub/5 satellite speakers (£250). OK the TV will work better under daylight conditions (projectors are light based afterall!) but for me I'd choose the projector everytime. Absolutely loving it
Skip - You've hit upon the biggest (and IMO only real) downside to a projector.
With a TV its all at the front, with a projector the image is still at the front but the unit is the other side of the room... and on the ceiling
I spent abour £30 on extension cables, the Wii uses a single RCA connector whilst the 360 connecting via composite uses 3 RCAs - bought a 4 plug RCA 10m cable so all the units stay at the front (you can see the 360/Wii in my pic there) so they're right next to the amp and the Wii sensor bar reaches but the video is piped down this extension cable down the edge of the room, up the wall and across the ceiling to the projector. My last job is to get trunking to hide the cables as they're all exposed and really dont look that great just sitting there.
Works great
What can your projector take for input? Got 1x VGA / 2x Composite / 1x HDMI / 1x S-Video / 1x Video on mine... HDMI however is not good for projectors as its a combined video/audio signal... which obviously doesn't work so well when the projector doesn't have its own speakers |

First pic is the unit itself, cables still all visible and heck even my paw prints from when I mounted it up there. Black cable heading away off to the bottom of the picture is the power cable - the bluish ones heading off to the left are the RCA cables from the 360/Wii.
Second pic is the back of the unit, all the connections I mentioned in above post plus a controller for a screen (so when the unit turns on the screen at the front of the room automatically lowers itself and back up again when you turn it off), RS232/USB ports for unknown purposes lol - manual shows them but never mentions what the heck they're used for
Third pic is the stack at the front, cables coming from the projector lower right. |

Naaah, I Don't have that much money.Me and my other half work full time though and we have no kids or anything else to pay for apart from our cat
My house is a fair size I guess though.
Garner, I have the same inputs as you. It also has audio out for the usage of HDMI. |

Ahh, now that makes more sense. My laptop is the only thing I use the HDMI on as it still plays sounds out of its speakers. |

Just to let ya know I paid £800 for my TV ncluding the wall bracket. I then paid no additional costs for cable trunking etc sockets etc etc as I am an electrician. Now I am gonna install CCTV tommorow to guard my TV and more importantly my cars, basic set up will cost me approx £30 for one cam linked direct to my TV but if I want to be able to record multiple cam images onto a dedicted HD system that will cost be an extra £200 tho I could just use my PC as the recorder. Mmmmmmmm not sure yet what to do |
