If you just opened this thread and read the link I have linked you to, then I am woundering if your shocked or not?

Finally, the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) have sent out warnings to most Internet Service Provoiders about their customers illegally downloading Music or video's via Peer-2-Peer networks.

The BPI will be monitoring the traffic of the internet, but only to file sharing programs such as LimeWire and BitTorrent. If they find an IP Address Illegally uploading or downloading music or video's, they will contact your ISP, which then your ISP will locate its customer doing this, and send them out a warning letter.
Its stricter stance on illegal downloaders might result in some ISPs being taken to court.

So in order to avoid this, the ISP's now put into action, Project "3 Strikes policy".
If you are issued 2 warnings for downloading illegal content, you will have your internet removed / disconnected after the 3rd attempt.
3 STRIKES! YOUR OUT OF THERE!

Virgin Media is one of the ISP's that has been hit by this and have sent out over 800 warning letters to their customers.
Some people feel that Virgin Media has betrayed them, stepping in this new policy.

Some ISPs such as Carphone Warehouse, have refused to participate and the BPI did not rule out the possibility of taking such refuseniks to court.

My Opinion
Now its great that something like this is being put into action.
I will admit that I do tend to illegally download music or video's, but I do not sell them to people. I keep them for my own personal use.
I once read a quote from somewhere which made me laugh.
"Stealing a song is like stealing a penny from a millionaire, they can afford it!"
But, what can we make out of all this?
Well, before soon, customers are going to be switching to different ISPs. Most ISPs will probley go out of buisness due to this event from the BPI.
Some of the ISPs like the Carphone Warehouse, refusing to take part in BPIs plan of action are not even worth considering to switch to. Click here to find out why.

Mobile Broadband does not do it for me, too slow!

Could this be the end of the best internet service provoiders for Great Britain?

They wont disconnect anyone. They just have to be seen to be trying to combat downloading. At the end of the day they want money from your custom.

Let them send me letters. I don't care I'll carry on uploading and downloading torrents.
Meh...

I had a letter once and from the advice of my good mate Richard (RHF on here) I told them I was a linux dev and had to download different builds nearly every day. Have never had any problems since.

I am with the car phone warehouse too. Which says they will not be sending people letters.

Virgin Media: ‘Absolutely No Possibility’ of Disconnecting File-Sharers
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Well thats good for you, means you respect the copyright laws and you feel no need to steal a $0.49 song from a millionaire who can afford it .

I never said I do not steal a $0.49 song from a millionaire I just said I do not use P2P or torrents. By the way if you made your money from mapping for a game company would you be happy if people downloaded that game. I am not saying I want to pay for every ruddy game out there but you cannot say it's ok to do so because they can afford it. I personally do not steal music I will buy an album I like. However games cost alot more. now I try before I buy if I download a game and like it then yes I will buy it. If I don't like it then it's a waste of a download but better that than £40.

If i made my money by mapping, I'd be happy if people downloaded the game because more people would be seeing my work, and I'd get payed by the company anyway

I usually download things to see if I like them, and usually if I like them enough, I do buy them.
