Wow, REDFROG, those were some good videos.

I especially liked the idea of the jetpack (multi #2 video), although the way you can just chuck a fi CENSORED ll of grenades at people just seems a bit much (maybe I'm just used to modern-day grenades that still have a pin to pull).

Still not too keen about the 3rd person mode, but the adjustment should be worth it. I'm guessing the reasoning is so that players can see where they're going a little better. For instance, in RF, some geomod holes are difficult to see in 1st person mode, and it's sometimes better to play a map in 3rd person because of that. Also, as the last video (multi #5) kind of pointed out, you could see where you were "going" when the player fell off the rock thingie. I know that in 1st person mode, I would've stayed pretty much off the rock because I didn't know what where the edge was while walking backwards. To me, it would've been too much of a risk to fall off the edge during a firefight (though the video shows it can also be an advantage to fall off an edge also).

Overall, they were pretty good. Maybe once I play it for a while, I'd feel better about the 3rd person mode, but as it stands now, I'm wondering why they can't/refuse to do it when they did it in RF1. Making it the default is different than outright not supporting a demanded feature (most people familiar with it know it as an FPS, and probably have played FPSes before. By introducing this learning curve, they are likely going to alienate some "hardcore" FPS fans, aka the folks who play FPSes "professionally" and guide/run tournaments).

Also, maybe if they could introduce some smaller UI elements as far as the HUD goes, it'd be a small improvement. I know when I'm pwning n00bs, I want as little on the screen as possible to distract me. Maybe make that weapons selection thing like the original RF: invisible until you switch weapons. Likewise for what I assume to be the game stats (upper-right hand corner). That should probably be accessed via the Tab key (by default) like RF1 did. Again, it's just more visual clutter, and it might be the clutter that gets you killed (ie sniper on a building to your right that you'd normally see, but can't because of the HUD).

that would be heaps better in 1st person
they probably went 3rd person coz its suits consoles better, but for PC, that outrageous

If you check out the videos you can create your own opinion.

Ghostkid thinks he would rather play RF1, and thats his opinion.

Just because you love the game to it's bones, doesn't mean everybody has to follow.

I could say the same about the UT3 haters. UT3 absolutely is the best online shooter out there, it is a bit vague to me how people can say UT3 is not good and they rather play UT2004.

IMO the multiplayer of RF:G looks unpromising. The gameplay is weird, or maybe it was just because of the reason they played it on a n00b console, showing a player with n00b skills, because you can clearly see he has a accuracy of maybe 5%. But that's just how console gamers play...and they think they're good.
If RF:G MP is not going to be strongly tested on PC, then the damage values would be completely messed up since you have a better accuracy on PC.

The 3rd person is a bad idea. An idea which they should have never come up with.

And are there any vehicles in online matches? I mean..it's a modern game and RF:G has vehicles, I highly expect to have them online.

Third person =YUCK IMO but I have to take into account that at the moment there is some newish console out and alot of people want good games for them and 3rd person works great for console buyers so for a while it will be a trend. then it will die down when those people have saved enougth money after buying those console to spend on upgrades for there PC's/ myself included

If you watch other videos, you will notice the comment, that they went to 3rd person because that way you can better view what killed you, if you see get killed by debriss falling from behind on top of you, alltho I personally think thats a load of BullDo.

obviously it is.
1st person shooters are more realistic and you definitely can see better what happen without being annoyed by your own body in your field of view.

I'm a bit surprised you can't choose between 1st and 3rd person shooter. It was possible with UT2004. Is it that complicated for an engine to deal with both?

PS: what 1rst person mode?

That is only because UT2004 was made to be first person.

It is a lot easier and faster to turn 1st person games into 3rd person than reverse.
Red Faction 1 has a thrid person, too.

It is easier because...actually everything already is built in 3rd person as well. Your weapons, your character with all the animations.

Now from 3rd to 1st person you need a lot of camera adjustment code, you need completely new first person models, with new animations and all new effects. You may also need them to be more detailed than the 3rd person ones. And the list still goes on...

I think the camera being off to one side of the player is a little disconcerting, at least to me
You can't really compare clumsy console aiming and movement to the precision moves on a PC.

jeez whats with all these videos.I stop watching them now to keep the game interesting.

yea singleplayer that was.
Now we finally get to see some multiplayer action.

I mean..those other singleplayer ones were 20 minutes long, showing half of the game LOL

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't mind playing first person with no first person weapon models.
