Wow, only wants DirectX 8.1

That means not much bump mapping, again.

Who cares about bump mapping?
Bump mapping doesn't only need Dx9, not even Dx8.

UT2003 and 04 are made of ultra high detailed meshes and textures, doesn't need to have bump mapping at all.

Well i personally really like bump mapping, adds tons of depth to the world without needing Massive Polygon numbers. But it can be a drain on the system.

And you do actually need Dx8 for bumpmapping, Dx7 doesn't support it.

Bump mapping is possible on DirectX6 and higher.

But you are right, the game will look a lot of better with it, than without. But UT2003 needs all the performance for rendering all the other stuff, yet. Faster systems will allow them to add more bump effects soon, I bet.

Heres a good comparison;
a sea without and with bump mapping

(sorry for the small size of the pic )

but its worth it

I really dislike how gaming sites use UT2K3 for their main benchmarking game.
UT2k4 looks good can't wait.

Huh whats wrong with UT2003 benchmarks now?

Should they use the crappy 3DMark 2003?

There are no other such great games to benchmark your newest hardware, than UT2003.

UT2003 doesn't use bump mappers or pixel shadders so it doesn't even test how well your video card handles them. and with most games these days coming out with bump mappers and pixel shadders that makes it an inaccurate benchmark.

Not to mention the engine is DirectX 8, doesn't test how well your video card can handle DirectX 9 features.

Bump Mapping has been around for years and years... like RedFrog says, way before DX8 came out...

At the moment, UT2003 is taking 3,2GB of my HD. They said you will need UT2003 too, to play UT2004..so WHAT? 3,2GB plus 3,5GB?

Oh god my HD can take only 14 LOL

(I have only 1 mod installed, there are people they have way more space used for UT2003)

hope I'm getting a new pc soon
(but UT2003 runs perfect )

the 33kbps modem I think is funny

Gaming on anything less than 128kbps I consider sick.
