I was going to post this in the staff forum, but everyone should see this.
I'm thinking we need some dedicated servers, hosting custom levels/mods as well as vanilla games.
Games I'm thinking of....
CSS
DoD Source
UT3
RF:G
Team Fortress 2
Is anyone interested?
Would you be willing to pay a fee to play on our servers (I'm thinking take a small amount out of the gold subscription) IE : Gold subscribers get access to our servers (even just a reserved slot if the idea of paying towards these doesnt appeal)
So ya, what do you guys think? Will they be played on?
Meh...

No.
For anyone reading this in 2019 or later: The RF community is alive on the Community Discord
Yeah I agree that the idea of paying is a bad one. But someone is going to need to pay for it. Anyone willing to help me out? For every donation pledged I'll personally match it.
Meh...

Doesn't sound like a bad idea, but wonder if it would be popular. Hell, even a slot in a TeamSpeak server would be a nice benefit.

Let's play a game of "Make SkipRat Go Bankrupt!"
In all seriousness, though, I don't think you're going to get people to pay for a server, donations or otherwise.
Although L4Y has always been short for funding ... i honestly dunno how that type of money could be gathered ... other than ads ... and i hate ads ...

Well, mainly it would just be a place for L4Y people to hang out at ... also it would help L4Y become more popular (if a dedicated server was around all the time, showing L4Y's name)
Maybe with a custom loading message or something that advertises for L4Y ... i dunno ...
Its been tried before, but it never got anywhere ...

For example:
Why pay for an RF:G server, when there would be hundreds of free ones?
Better bandwidth for players. There is a BIG difference between running a server from home and renting one.

The idea is for the custom maps to be played really. And yeah for us to hang out on.
Anyway. I'll just set up one for my site instead if no one is interested.... Me and RHF will get a dedi CSS server.
