Im looking for a decent pair of headphones that are somewhat inexpensive ... it doesn't have to be super awesome sound quality ... the main thing i want is it to have a long cord that doesn't break easily ... i keep burning through headphones because the wires break somewhere ...
Any suggestions? ... otherwise ... ill resort to plan B
My plan B is to make my own headphones (i know sounds stupid but just follow with me)
I think the best option would be for me to get some old headphones like this:

And then gut the insides replacing them with new speakers ... then depending on the quality of the cord, i may take the cord completely out and cut up a phone jack and rig it to the headphones itself, that way the cord is both replaceable and detachable ...
So basically Headphones -->Phone Cord -->"Phone jack / headphone jack hybrid" thing (Ill probably make this out of an old phone cord extender or filter or something)
Bad idea? |

I like the idea, but instead of using headphone housings, use paper cups. Then you won't get mad when they break. |

Sennheiser HD555
Best headphones you will find for the price. I garauntee that with a sobe seal of approval, lol.
If that is beyond your budget, let me know Oh, keep in mind, the HD555s have an open air design, meaning what you listen to, if you crank it up, others will be able to hear it too. Then again these are for quality, not silence from the outside. |

Quoting Naruto 53 | Get some bose! |
Sennheiser actually exceeds Bose in sound quality for the most part as long as you don't compare the more pricey Bose sets to the cheap Sennheiser sets. But amazingly enough, even the cheaper Sennheisers still sound great.
I've tried and tested lots of brands looking for a good combo of Headphones/Headsets for gaming, music, and movies. So far I've found the HD555s to be the best I've tested. And I'd LOVE to get my hands on the Sennheiser HD650s, but at $600 I think I'll pass.
But just as a heads up, I've compared the HD555s with:
Speedlink Medusa
Icemat Siberia
SteelSeries 5Hv2
PLANTRONICS .Audio 350/355
PLANTRONICS GameCom 777
Haven't bothered testing any Logitech, Creative, etc. brands due to knowledge of not changing from a cheap solution.
However, if you are interested, I haven't gotten a chance to try them myself, but I've actually heard DECENT things about the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826158051]Creative FATAL1TY headset. And when not needed you can easily detach the mic to use as headphones. |

That will sound like trash. Don't bother. Get some Sennheisers. |
Yea it will suck in comparison to the expensive types, but sound quality isn't so much an issue as durability, also i really can't afford anything really expensive ... and i think id die if the cord broke on those
Also my "makeshift" side of me kinda wants to do it ...
... the metal ear casing may give off a tin-like sound ... so if i find metal ones ill have to to some tinkering (try insulating the inside with foam, adjust air tightness, etc) ... tuning speakers with their casings is pretty similar to tuning a drum if you think about it ... the way the speaker is housed actually makes a big difference on sound quality ...
Edit: ooh, if they are metal, i can paint them cool colors ... |

Well, keep this in mind, if the cord on the HD555s break, you can always replace via SennheiserUSA.com
And Darcshadow7, lol. We are taking about quality cans, not cheap headphones If you aren't looking for anything quality though yea, just go with whatever you can find for under $10 |

Quoting Doc Savage | i have a pair of skullcandys theyre great. i can vouch for their quality |
Bleh, tried 2 sets, Skullcrushers and Mesh. They have INCREDIBLE bass.... But beyond that, not much in sound quality. I'm an audiophile, I'm very picky on sound quality, lol. Skullcandy offers a decent line, durable too, but the Skullcandy line is all about the lows and the bass. Mids and highs suck on them.
I have a pair of Skullcandy's though for when I'm just out walking around with an mp3 player, gotta love that bass. |

Yea, for something like an mp3 player I'd definitely recommend Skullcandy if you want some nice bass from the portable music player. |

but they cost money ...
I guess im looking for a durable pair under $50 at least ... paying 100$ seems kinda extreme considering that could by some pretty decent PC parts for that price ...
$100 dollars seems like alot for some plastic, magnets and wire ... |

It's more about quality when purchasing headphones/speakers. And at $99 from NewEgg the Sennheiser HD555s are retail @ $180, so a pretty damn good deal there.
For a quality brand, spending under around the $100 mark will tend to cost you sound quality(So go, hurry and grab those Sennheisers ). |

I guess what i don't like about that is that the sum of its parts is like ... what ... $10 tops? ... but its price doesn't reflect that ...
there really is nothing to justify charging that much when the manufacturing process and materials are taken into account ...
all i want is headphones with a stronger wire ... |
