Another excellent look at the upcoming game Painkillers. HardwareHelix.com has posted a hands on preview of Painkillers.
Quote | Painkiller uses the proprietary PAIN engine, developed by People Can Fly. This is some seriously impressive technology, which seems to be able to render extremely detailed environments and characters at a blisteringly fast framerate. | Read the rest here. Look for Painkiller April 12th on PC.
Enjoy! |

The game looks great, Only problem I can see is the gameplay reminds me of Serious Sam. To stiff.
Hope its a little more fluid in actual play.

Obviously DemonHunter you only skimmed the preview. If you had read it or any of the others on the game you would know this: Quote | Immediate parallels will be made with recent games like Serious Sam, and the mentality behind both is more or less identical; kill all the baddies in one area, move on, repeat ad nauseam. However, unlike Serious Sam, (which was a fun game in its own completely mindless way,) Painkiller manages to create a stunning sense of atmosphere with its beautifully rich architecture and character design. In fact, gameplay in Painkiller seems more closely related to a classic like Doom than it does any recent game. Parts of it are downright spooky. |
Built on the Havoc 2 technology, like Max Payne 2 it is anything but stiff. Quote | .....Coupled with Havok 2 physics, Painkiller manages to create a very believable game world. |
This game is going to surprise a lot of people.. Quote | The Polish programmers over at People Can Fly deserve serious credit for this project. Saying that Painkiller could be the “Sleeper Hit of the Year” would be doing it a disservice. |
The demo comes out in 1 week! Can't wait! |

I wasn't talking about the Storyline or the enemies.
I was talking about the way the character moves. Thats what reminds me of Serious Sam.
The game looks amazing otherwise. |

So am I and so is the preview. The Havoc 2 movements by design and definition are not "stiff", as you say. The comparison to Serious Sam refers to the characters. Read the preview, or any of the reviews and you will see what I mean. |

Foe comes up with the goodies again
Looks like I might stand a chance at playing this one, unless it has to run in 32-bit colour like that bug-ridden bugger of a game XIII |

Outstanding idea
Yeah, I got japped by XIII as well - lashed out some loot on it, and then found it was destined to stay on my shelf as a curio |

Here is another Painkiller hands on preview, Painkiller Preview. This one gets to some of the brass tacks of what to expect. Very straight forward.
Quote | Conclusion
So what does all this come down to? The game is highly anticipated by many. But I suspect those who will enjoy it the most are the ones who know the game is all about running and gunning in a beautiful game engine. If you start to expect a full blown storyline with Painkiller, you may be disappointed. Painkiller truly is for the first person shooter fanatic who is looking for a good time killing monsters that dare move on your screen. I estimate that Painkiller will score in the high 80s in the review rankings, but should score even higher in the heart of any person who calls themselves a first person shooter lover.
| Reminds me of a couple of my favs in that description. Looking forward to the demo next week. |
