Need help on upgrading my pc (indirectly calling out for sobe's help ) And levels 4 you is almost always the best place to go.

Well, my black friday ended up in a humiliating failure for the fact i walked out with 2 ( crysis, bioshock) pc games a dvd, and a pack of batteries. ( the 2 games btw are dragging their feet on my computer as i barely meet the minimum requirements.) So this is what i planned on getting. So far I bought 2 gigs of ram for 9.99 (after mail-in rebate ) and now im looking for a video card. I can never figure out which one to get with all the shenanigans nvidia and ati cause and there overclocking do-hickey's and shadepixelater contraptions.

Right now I run a ATI RADEON HD 2600 PRO 512MB Video Card. and my mobo is this Socket AM2)GigaByte GA-M55SLI-S4 nForce4 SLI Chipset DDR2/800 SATA 16x PCI-Express MBoard w/GbLAN,IEEE1394.

i got money to waste as i failed to get anything decent from the sales.

thnx help is appreciated.

I am your man on this. I suggest get an Nvidia GTX 260 with 216 cores/SP and for this I very highly recommend to download 180.48 drivers, as this are the big thing Nvidia has been raving about for the past 6 months. These drive prove to increase performance on the GTX260 with 216 cores by over 25% over the previous 178.XX series drivers. Download them here

this card work very well with bio shock as this game is optimized for Nvidia's cards

his mobo can suport athlon X2 6400+ with the F11J bios update or a 6000+ with F10 update.
only catch is if you want to use a 6400+ you will be using the bios with PCI prefetch disabled. (F11J bios) all mobo manufactures where ordered by Nvidia to disable PCI prefetch on all mobo's with nForce chipsets a few weeks ago, because of a lawsuit by OPTi Inc.

so in other word if u want to use a 6400+ CPU, it will come at a cost of PCI performance

by the way CPU only makes a small difference in FPS, the GPU is where the bottle neck is.

How powerful is your PSU? (in watts)

There can be no hardware suggestions without this question answered.

Hi, A few questions. What kind of CPU do you have and what is the fastest one your motherboard supports. How big is your power supply and what Operating system are you using?

your CPU is more than enough, CPU's are not that important when talking games. Your PSU should be fine too, but you will need more if ya going Sli. But I am assuming your not.

Check out this Bench of the GTX 260 (216SP) with 180 series drivers. against a roughly equal priced HD 4870 Link
