have for the first time engineered 3-D materials that can reverse the natural direction of visible and near-infrared light |
That is a huge step and start to be undetectable.
Here's an old technology, Invisible Cloak

Well, Ghostkid. let me explain it in terms that most gamers would understand.
It's magic.

Basically like a Mirror, except you see whats on the opposite side of it as if you were watching Startrek and a spaceship puts its invisibility cloak on, and you see through it, not a reflection. |

I love the progress of technology and science. that all i ever look up on the net
It would be pretty sweet the day you can go to you local Doc and get an injection of nano or even pico bots to repair and rebuild your body on a cellular and molecular scale |

And just what do you want to have rebuilt???
But yes, some of the progress in the last few years has been amazing, and yet the more advances we have, the more potential for perversion on the science. Weaponisation of nanotechnology is quite a frightening prospect. Capek's mutants in Red Faction are not that far fetched. |

I would like to see it being used to repair damaged cells, such as nerves, cone cells, rod cells, cochlea hair cells, etc.. you know repair and build the body back up from disease and injuries. |

It's certainly a possibility that the rebuilding of cells etc will be achieveable one day, however there is also the possibility of simply using nanocomponents instead of living material. Things like cochleal hair cells could be replaced with carbon nano-rods and so could cones & rod cells with the added advantage of expanding the observable spectrum. It is conceivable that humans could be given the ability to see infrared without replacing the eye with a completely artificial device. |

So like ... a sheet of glass
The refraction formula is this:

every material has a refraction index (n) (i think air is = 1.00) ...
The trick is to make a hollow shape of some material that can refract light in a path around the hollow inside and out of the back of it no matter what angle you look at without disrupting the natural trajectory of the light ...
just play with the refraction index with the glass material in 3Ds max if you don't quite get it
If only gauss's law could apply to light ....

unlikely, there has been studies with people whom have gained a extra sense (such as sight or hearing) after being born with not having it ... since their brain is past the growing stage, it often leads to sensory confusion which leads to depression in the subject ...
if you were to expand someones range of senses, you would have to do it while they are just a newborn ... |

I was just looking at retinal implants and replacement the other day. they recon one day we will have retinal replacements that surpass the resolution of the human eye. But still nano or pico bots could easily repair, enhance and correct mistakes caused by the natural aging process. will this you could have enhanced sensory organs, never get sick, increased strength and never age and live for a few hundred years. |

I haven't seen that so I'm not sure... I'm thinking it would be similar to the cloaking device that alien in Predator has or 007's car in "Die another day". Because it would bend light around you there would be some distortion while you was moving and so you could be seen. However, when you were completely still it would be extremely difficult to see you.
Although the article does say, "reverse the direction of light" which kind of suggests bouncing it back. If this was all it did then it would still be highly visible. The description of how its suppose to work isn't too good.
It's funny that while I was looking into to this technology I found a movie review of that 007 movie and the critic called the inivisible car idea ridiculous, but now it looks like a definite possibility. |

Awesome find. I once saw a cheap knock off Cloaking device of some sort. was hilarious. They got a car, with multiple LCD screens covering the right hand side of the car. on the left they had a camera or multiple cameras. They then projected the images from the camera onto the screen on the other side and drove it through a wood and got people to spot for it. I think like 9/10 people spotted it. LOL! |

30 years old? Doubtfull even if you are referring to the numerous conspiracies of supressed scientific discoveries that certain nameless secret sub-government non-agencies supposedly like to keep to themselves and only allow knowledge of to enter into the public domain when they are superceded by even more ingenious technologies. |
