You silly little german kid. You call overclocking stupid?

First of all, Overclocking your computer is very good in the Finance department. Why waste around £200+ on a QuadCore when you can simply buy a Intel Core2Duo and overclock that and get it to about the same speed as a QuadCore for cheaper the price around £100+. I bought my Core2Duo for £109.99 from overclockers.co.uk. Compared to a QuadCore, they cost around £190 - £250 for them.

I have managed to Overclock my CPU to nearly the same speed a QuadCore is, and paid cheaper price for it.

Also, my Computer is very good with cooling with the Antec 900 Case, and a "Non-Stock" CPU fan. I bought the OCZ Vanquisher Cooler

This constantly keeps my CPU cooled at a 32°C

Most importantly, this thread was about helping me fix my RAM issue, not submit a arguement about QuadCores and Core2Duo's. So when you are ready to CENSORED , we will all be delighted to not hear from you again.

You cannot compare clocks with cores.
Not - at - all. You are funny.

Get a clue about multitasking.

At load or idle? You're always missing out the important information.

Wow cool 32...mine cools @ 22-24°C Idle. (that's just a little more than room temp. Thanks to CoolAndQuiet) Now, should we be dancing?
I'm using the MaxOrb. Best topflow cooler around.

And again. You cannot get a quad-competitive performance out of using an OCed dual CPU.
It always depends on how much the software relies on multi core support of course.
If you play RF which uses only 1 core, a Quad with 2,4 Mhz should be beaten by a Dual or Single with 3Ghz. Does that make sense to you? I hope. (that aside, my PC is downclocking to 1Ghz while playing RF anyway)
Now if we played a game such as GTA IV, which makes extremly profitable use of multicore, up to 4 cores or more, then a dualcore with 2x3Ghz will be beaten by a QuadCore which is using 4x2,4Ghz very easily.
Since all 4 cores are completely loaded, which is the case for about maybe a handful of other games on the whole market. (yet). And again, that aside, Dual cores are totally overwhelmed with the work which is meant to be done by 4 cores.

I'm not really posting this to defend myself anymore. ..and I mean, everything I'm posting isn't my opinion anyway, this is simple technical knowledge I just wanted to share with everyone. There might be more people that were thinking like Spikey.

And these people thinking like me is a bad thing? I wouldn't Think so.
What your not seeing on my side of the point is why waste money on a QuadCore CPU to play one friggin game?

I mean seriously, If you have all that money to blow on a QuadCore, then do it. But people can save them selfs money if the get a Core2Duo or Extreme and overclock it. Giving you nearly the speed of a QuadCore. Why pay extra when you can pay cheaper and modify it? Just as long as you know what your doing.

My CPU reaches the max of 38 - 46°C when playing a game. Anything over 60°C is damaging point for your CPU.
Dude, Ive played around with computers more than what you have had played with CENSORED s and I know what value im getting out of my computer with a Core2Duo. Rather than your trust QuadCore to run GTA IV.

You got to be stupid to just go out and buy a QuadCore for one or 2 games when you can O.C Your CPU to almost reach the standards of a QuadCore... Never the less of how many cores it has, Big whoop.

Yea, wow, it's enough now.
You are completely losing the point of what you were defending from yourself initially.

You have some serious problems.

You have a serious problem of Shutting the CENSORED up.

Get some help and ask a doctor to stitch up your mouth so that you cannot talk. Also ask the doctor to break your fingers so you cannot type... This is the point where this thread then gets closed down by a L4Y member of staff because me and you are arguing about nothing. So cut your crap and get on with your life of believing a Quad Core is better, ok?

Spikey, you are partially right but mostly wrong.

There is absolutely no motherboard on Earth that will support a Core2 in Crossfire or SLI. It is an either/or thing up until now.

If you desire the choice between Crossfire and SLI then your in luck, you can build a system with an X58 chipset and a core i7 cpu. But since your overclocking a core2 to save money, it is my guess that you won't want to shell out the cash for that upgrade.

I can't speak for Crossfire, but my 2x GTX280s in SLI would BSOD with my 750w Pc Power and Cooling PSU. I upgraded to a 1000w and haven't had a single problem. I would recommend a PSU upgrade in the near future.

I am an idiot for sure. I have a quad core Penryn , the Q9550 in my gaming machine as well as SLI'd 280's, 4G ReaperX ram, and striped RaptorX's. What games do I have installed you ask? RF, UT, Starcraft, and Combat Arms. Why do I need so much power for 7 year old games? Because I like the sound, and I love it when the lights go dim when I turn it on. Also, it's really cold here and it keeps my feat toasty warm while gaming.

There is no world on Earth where a dual core is better then a quad core, duh!

k, well now I will chime in I suppose. Your PC Power and Cooling unit may not have been able to do the job simply due to it's poor build quality, that is enough said on that. A Corsair 620HX (Seasonic OEM) can power 2 GTX 260s in SLi. While it would be cutting it close at an output of give or take 580watts - 600watts, assuming there is a quad running with multiple hard drives.

And while I will say you have a kickass rig there Nitro, dual cores ARE better than quads... At certain things Quads give more results within encoding, rendering, etc. Whereas duals give better and faster results in gaming. At least for now. I'm sure when the Core i7's become more mainstream we will see games more aimed towards quad cores as well as Intel fixing the instruction set to surpass the Penryn's a bit farther in gaming, 2% increase in FPS is not enough for me to jump up and grab one.

LOL Thank you, I was hoping to upgrade to play some new games but now I can't afford any games

Sobe, poor build quality? Corsair over PCP&C? I think NOT! Corsair makes nice ram, but what does that have to do with being great at PSU building. PC Power has been the best for who knows how long. Sure, now OCZ owns them, but both my PSU's were made before that time. Why would anyone want to goof around trying to balance rails to make things stable? Just go with 1 90amp rail and be done, it's the only way to go!

lol, Corsair sets the standard for today's PSU market using CWT and Seasonic internals, and both Channel Well and Seasonic bring those standards to the market.

The more modern PC Power and Cooling silencer units are the best units as they themselves use Seasonic internals, and I have a feeling you got one that was made by their older provider, Sparkle. And if you didn't know, Corsair's VX and TX series both include a single 12v rail.

But yes, especially now, as you just stated, OCZ bought them out. If you haven't heard OCZ is forcing PCP&C to push out cheap units half-assed as of late simply to be marked as "value".

I have purchase their units before and would also recommend PCP&C to anyone, and if I can't get my hands on a Corsair needed, PCP&C or FSP Group would be either of my next choices.

Ah and if you hadn't noticed that more people prefer the quality of Corsair's units, CustomPC has been doing yearly votes on what is the best PSU for build quality, performance, and reliability, Corsairs has won for the 2nd consecutive year

Basically what I'm getting at, is the 750watt should have been just enough to power the GTX 280s with your C2Q. Hell, maybe the PSU was simply starting to go due to the load, but... yea.

Sobe,

The 750 is the largest of the Silencer series, and yes, that's of course what I have. The big daddy is a Turbo Cool 1kW. I assumed that the 750 would never have a problem, but I didn't plan on running SLI until later. When I started having problems, all I had to do is remove a card and it would be stable. I called PC Power and gave him my specs, he just laughed and suggested upgrading to a bigger PSU ASAP. Luckily, Newegg just happened to be giving away the 1KW that day so I was all set and have not had a problem since

Corsair is a great company, but PCP&C has been on my "someday when I get rich" list for 10 years

Both are honestly great companies

But as for the 750, I was referring to the internal build, not the name of the unit. PCP&C used to use Sparkle as their manufacturer for their Silencer line(While good ran into issues). Now of course they use Seasonic, they were being taken over by Corsair, thus the switch . You can use the # towards the bottom left or right side of the PSU's sticker to find out if it is a Seasonic OEM, etc.

As an example:
E104405 - Seasonic OEM
E161885 - Sparkle

But overall, with a 1kw you are definitely more than set for now and any near future upgrades.

Not so sure about that Sobe, what if I add another GTX280? It will kill that 1kw instantly.

There are no number like that on the 750, it is brand spanking new, so I wouldn't expect it to be old. If that makes any sense It is a Rev. B2W

SLI and Crossfire is unprofitable and wasteful.
You buy a 100% card but you get nothing more than raw 40% out of it.
There is no solid system in games for dual gpu solutions.
They yet only increase performance in higher resolutions and in AF or AA performances.

2x GTX280 is wasteful, 3x GTX280 is dumb. And 1 GTX280 is by far MORE than enough for any game out there.
You should set your own borders and think about it if you really need it/if it's really increasing anything..
Crysis ultra settings 8x AA 24 Samples: 120fps but with a 3rd 130fps!!!.. wow couldn't have lived without that?
