hey all Iam currently working on a few projects involving Linux (Ubuntu Hardy) and i needed to use X-chat [irc] to connect to a irc severs....Iam currently trying to get X-chat to work through the proxy currently working at my college, The Proxy accepts the ports and my account is allowed through the proxy. Does any one know how to setup the proxy for X-chat???
Also on the computer there is a wireless card (Atheros) which Ubuntu Detects but i can't access the wireless card in my networks to be able to find the connections near me.
Any one here able to help?
I don't use Linux for anything but messing around when I'm bored (and even then, I use Slackware, not Ubuntu), but have you tried the official (I guess) xchat help page? Alternately, try this (looks to be user-created) help page.
Also, try your wireless card, or computer, manufacturer's website for a driver update for Linux (if you really feel brave, just a plain old "Linux" driver for your specific card might work, otherwise try to find something specific to your distro - Hardy Heron).
Anyway, may [insert diety of choice here] help you in setting up your wireless card. Linux still has some pretty poor support for wireless cards (mostly because they are proprietary and the FOSS community has to resort to reverse-engineering most of the code), and a common experience among Linux users is the "thrill" of using ndiswrapper (something you may have to do, as Atheros has a history of not releasing their drivers to the FOSS community) to configure their wireless card.
