Polyphony Digital are now finished with the development of Grand Turismo 4, and have an additional, big surprise waiting.
Today Sony Computer Entertainment in Japan held a well earned party to celebrate thet the development of Gran Turismo 4 at last is finished. This long avaited game has been delayed several times, and finally it was decided that the problematic multiplayer part of it should be deleted.
For the europeans, there are no reason to celebrate yet. While the americans and japanese will have the game in time for christmas, it will not be in the european shelves untill after new years eve. No final european release date is set, but the rumours say the game will be released in february. The reason the europeans have to wait, is that Sony wants to release the game at same time all over Europe, and the translation to the different languages will take a long time.
So for the surprise; Polyphony Digital are planning for a new Gran Turismo game. This is no big surprise on it's own - what was not expected is what group of age the game will be made for. The target will be children, from age of eight and down. The reason for Polyphony's hit for this market is a noble one, according to the producer of the game, Kazunori Yamauchi:
- I wish that young children will learn to understand why cars are fun. By using the entertainment value of a game, we can increase the numbers of car-lovers twenty years into the future. If we don't love cars as children, there is little possibility we will be interested in them as adults.
This is all that for now is official about the new Gran Turismo -game. It might also be mentioned that Yamauchi expects Gran Turismo 5 (not this upcoming childrens game or the soon-to-be GT4-version with onlinesupport) to have damagemodelling incorporated when it is released for PS3.

Couldn't be because GTA is unlikely to make a Grand Theft Auto Kiddie version and they have captured most of the mature market? *LOL* Better they should make Gran Turismo 5 with the option of bass fishing or deer hunting out the driver's side window?
I am thinking that Gran Turismo is a completly different game than GTA yes? Seen as GT4 got delayed until next year I don't think they are in direct compition with Rockstar.
I'm looking forward to GT4 because GT is the best racing game ever for the purests that is.
