Electronic Arts has stated that Battlefield: Modern Combat will be one of their first games for the next generation of Xbox, probably together with the Criterion-made game Black
According to the netplace Gamesindustry.biz, Electronic Arts have confirmed that Battlefield: Modern Combat is under development for the next generation Xbox. This version of the game will be on the side of the Xbox- and PS2 versions already being developed. The game should have been released this year, but Electronic arts decided to push it to next year, so they could add a singleplayer, which is currently under development at Electronic Arts in UK.
Last week Digital Illusions told they have been working with two games for PS3 and Xbox 2, but they didn't give much details about those games. If everything works all right, the games will be released late in 2006 or early 2007, and Digital Illusions in Canada are working on the same games for todays systems. Digital Illusions own the gameconcepts themselves, but Electronic Arts will be the publisher for both games. It would be no surprise if those two games are the reason for Electronic Arts wish to buy the whole of Digital Illusions.
Gamesindustry.biz also states that the FPS game Black, made by Criterion, is on its way to Xbox2. Criterion was bought by Electronic Arts earlier this year ( a business which might have big consequences for the gamingindustry, as Criterion owns the Renderware graphics-engine which is used in a lot of different games from both EA and other publishers). Black has been under development for a long time, and is an actionfilled, teambased shootergame heavily influenced by Hollywood-movies. The game will also be released for todays systems. |
