I've had similar problems with my car, where it wouldn't start, but that was usually because of a dead battery from leaving the lights or radio on. but this one time it wouldn't start, well actually it would go like it was starting every time I turned the key in the ignition, but then I later found out that the starter in my car went bad.
So if you have a screw driver and an extra person have one person turn the key in the ignition and the other person with the screw driver inserted into the starter which should create a spark and start it up fine, but it will probably take a few tries. I had to do it this way for a week until I bought a new starter and installed it myself. |

KERPAL, what it sounds to me, if you were using the "screwdriver trick" then most likely than not, it was your solenoid that went out. I few years ago, that happen to me out on the road. I did the same thing just to get it home, then I went out and bought the solenoid.
Now-a-days, the starter comes with the solenoid at no extra charge. Well it seems that they don't charge extra. I think the start companies just got tired of having to take back starters that were working because the "customer" had a bad solenoid. |

God I am so going to hate it when I get a car.
Ive done driving lessions but havent completed them because I ran out of funds to pay the guy who was teaching me.
On the other hand, I have a Provisional Driving License which means I can drive with a Learner plate on the car and someone with at least 5 years of driving experience sitting in the front passanger seat.
I will defently try and pass my driving sometime this year. But what all you guys have explained on this page about starters and solenoid make me clueless lol. I think I will stick to my Computer mechanics because I know more about computers than cars. |

In the UK, you can drive a car with a Provisional if:
You have a person aged 21 or over, who has passed their test by 3 Years (not 5).
Are insured on the car.
Vehicle must be fitted with L plates.
