Max Payne 2 - Payne Effects MOD v1.1 by The Silver
Hi to all, i decided to upload this mod that i made only for myself long time ago.
I hope you will enjoy it.
Initially it was based on the DeathRow Mod but during the months i changed lot of things
mixing features made from myself and from other mods, i really don't remember all of them,
so if you see part of your work in my upload please contact me and i will give you credits.
But i repeat: it's not entirely made by me.
The intent of the mod is to make Max Payne 2 more realistic and tactical,
but at the same time to give a cinematographic epic feel to the shootouts.
Features:
Little darker Max Skin (Pixel Shader Skin Compatible)
New skin for Beretta
New Desert Eagle
New Striker skin
New Shotgun skin
New MP5 skin and Scope (realistic ACOG Reticle)
New Uzi replaced by MP5K retextured
New ColtCommando M4A1 with AimPoint scope)
New Kalasnikov replaced by G36C retextured (with new empty magazine texture)
New Dragunov skin
New SteyrSSG skin
Realistic bullet objects penetration
Realistic bullet body penetration (M4A1 yes, shotgun no, ecc...)
Spectacular shotgun bullet light effect when hit
New blood sprut effect
New realistic Ragdoll
New BulletTime (more dynamic with new remap and epic music)
Little improved ShotDodges (16:9, zoom, slower, ecc...)
New Shotgun shoot and reload animation
Realistic bullet spread and damage
New Dragunov Bullet Cam
Little HUD Changes (health and bt bar fix, new icons and colors, ecc...)
New Menu Images and Main Menu Music (PM me and i give you the title if you want...)
NEW SUPPRESSING FIRE FUNCTION (now enemies fear your bullets)
New Decals (realistic blood ecc...)
New realistic Weapon Sounds
New realistic shooting parameters (magazine bullet amount ecc...)
Improved AI (only a little less stupid...)
New Real Weapon Pickup Names
Improved miscellaneous sounds (characters and various...)
Old Max Payne 1 skins for 2 or 3 enemies
Improved Level OF Detail
New Grenade Explosion Effect
And other features that now i don't remember...

Woah! Red blood in a black and white bullet time remap! ive been trying that for the last year Good job mate!
Mod is pretty fun considering the mix of different mods. still the ai cover system doesnt work too well, they get really stupid and sits and wait. so u should tune the timer abit so they dont get affected by the projectiles for too long |

Thanks for your feedback; the danger time is 4 sec for pistol bullets and 6 for rifles bullets... yes it's too much, but i've noticed it only after uploading the mod... So i'll correct it on the new version coming soon.

Yes, new weapons may be cool, but it really needs lot of time and work to add weapons to Max Payne 2 (for this i have replaced uzi with mp5k instead of adding them), and for the most part of the day I already have to study for the university...
It can be easy if you start from another mod with already lot of weapons (cinema? ) but i used the DeathRow mod as a starting point...
I will look if there's a quick way to add the same weapons of the cinema mod, maybe something easy like copy & paste txt files...
Anyway thanks for the suggestion. |

I'm not a modeler, btw i I too would like to have a sightly modified Max model, maybe with a Beretta Shoulder Holster (like John McClane in Die Hard) under the leather jacket.
For the new jeans textures i can try, it seems to not need lot of work...
For the cleaners i don't want to change them becouse the purpose of the mod is to not make big changes to the original game, only to improve the original feel and, maybe, making it better.
And for the weapons, there are new weapons slots at work, so i can maintain the original replaced weapons (Kalasnikov, ColtCommando and UZI) and also add new ones. |

Ok' i'll try it soon.
For the blur; i don't used it becouse i don't like it too much (and the black&white remap alredy make things harder to see clearly) btw if there's a command to make the blur barely visible i can test it.
PS:I forgot to mention, in the features list inside the ReadMe, the New Grenade Explosion Effect. |

One of the purpose of the mod was to increase the realism; a 9mm bullet is always lethal when shoot in the head (excluding helmets ecc...), and 2 or 3 of them fired from a short distance to a body armour will make it surely useless.
So yes, you can kill nearly everyone with the Beretta M92FS.
Sorry, but i always hated games in wich you can shoot a lot of bullets in the head of the enemies before seeing them die. 
EDIT: Maybe i can see if it's possible to make the body armour a little stronger and reduce the damage done to the arms... But 2 bullets on the "nude" chest or legs will kill everyone. |

MOD UPDATE: I have edited the danger time to improve the suppressing fire AI reaction, now it's more reactive and doesn't go to sleep when you shoot...
I've also added a sightly visible motion blur effect when in bullet time, and i have reduced damage a little to the body armour and arms&legs (the game don't make distinction).
evolvercobra: I've tried your remap, it's good but i don't like too much becouse it's a blurred version of the original in my mod, i prefer the grainy filter that mine seems to add in addition to the black & white colors. But i appreciate your work, mine is only a presonal preference.
Now i have a question: I'm in trouble with lowering player's health, i've tried with the Max_Payne.txt file inside the Skin folder but it seems to make any difference. Someone can help me please? |

Thanks for your interest Fr0z3n77, but the life of the enemies is already quite low, I would also lower the life of the player. Can you help me in this? |

Yes, I know that difficulty.txt has to do with the player, It is the first thing I looked, but I have not found anything that regulates the amount of life of the player, only values about the health recharge time. |

Thank you very much Fr0z3n77. Now it works!
I've also replaced with C01a_MAXIMUMHEALTH the MaximumHealth values in all the MaxPayne files inside the Skin folder, with this trick i can now regulate the player's health simply editing the value inside the ai_ranges.h file. |

Yes, in fact I immediately renamed it into PAYNE_MAXIMUMHEALTH. 
EDIT: Now i'm thinking if there is a way to make the health value related with the difficulty settings...
Maybe a function inside the difficulty.txt that connects each difficulty level to a specific value inside the ai_ranges.h... |

Yes, or we can set the same difficulty values for every difficulty level; but these are not good ways.
I want to leave a selectable difficulty, so everyone can choose to play the mod in an easy way without any problem or play the mod with a "realistic" and challenging difficulty. 
EDIT: Someone can help me to make the health level linked to the difficulty selected? Any ideas? |

naspter: I've just tried your mod, but it seems to not work... Maybe i've done something wrong...
However i've tweaked my suppressing fire function a lot! I've reduced danger times between 1 and 4 seconds, depends from the weapon used (I think that the bigger caliber weapons and the rapid fire weapons puts more fear... ), and i also tweaked the enemies AI to lower reaction time and aiming time.
This, combined with a life much lowered, makes the gameplay really better balanced than before. 
UPDATE: I've added physicalized shells and magazines!!! They react to footsteps, explosion ecc...
Thanks to VGames for the idea! 
I've also added a beretta shoulder holster to the original model of max payne.
