Heh, are we hosted in the states?!

I didn't know that tbh! Why?

Some of the rules here are outdated perhaps. I don't think this site needs to be geared towards familys, if you look at the games we host files for, most of them are rated mature!

Garner, wants this to be a Family Friendly Site. It's hosted here for the very reason that the dollar is weak right now and he gets a better deal. I am not sure what state it's hosted on but the last state I believe was Texas.

Garner has lost interest in this site I think. It's time the staff took over and brought this site up to date. I'm willing to pay out of my own pocket to get this site up to scratch, anyone else with me?

Staff forums for such a discussion as that is going off-topic.

On-topic:

sure I believe in being able to do what you want, however this site is Garner's site. You abide by the rules he set out and you can take part, you don't and your not allowed. Its the same most places you go. Think of it like this, if you go to a friends house and they ask you to not smoke inside, or something else like that. You generally (saying generally as Skiprat will be quoting this and saying he wouldn't care ) adhere to the rules as its that persons house.

I did not vote because there is not an option there that I find worth voting for. However I will share my opinion with you all on how I feel about this website and its members and staff.

Admins
To start off, let’s talk about Admins. Now when people get administrative abilities, they are given them for a reason. That reason is trust. In this case the owner trusts another person to help him/her to maintain their website, so they find someone they trust, give them admin privileges and let them get on with it.
After a short while, more and more people get admin or staff privileges which make maintaining this website easier. You all already knew this, but this is getting to my point.
When a member gets the ability to be able to administer this website or anything else, they get a sense of control / power. In other words, their brain sparks with electrical impulses to think they are semi god, and look down on the members like ants.
When this sets in, the attitude starts from that staff member, and gets more and more powerful because he can control everyone.
When this happens, members start to feel a sense of being controlled and start to get angry or frustrated.
There are a few admins on this website who have a bad attitude. I know this because when admins post something to make you look stupid, I get frustrated and reply back to stand my grounds, to protect myself.
This is call being human, and fighting for what I think is right for me. We all do this.

Perhaps maybe something should be settled with all staff and admins that if they down talk members for any reason (has happened before) that they would get a temp suspension on their administrative privileges. That is only a suggestion, not a "You should do this because I am wiser than you all!".

Members
Members, the wonderful public who think they own everything.
There are a few types of members I know.
Calm, Intelligent and Friendly.
Angry, Rude and Ignorant.
These 3 bottom types of people are the ones who are most difficult at times for the admins.
When this happens, the admins have to up with them and deal with their problems. These people are the ones who never follow the rules set up for this website because they never bothered to read them because they do not care.
There is not much to say on members, but I’m sure the admins can expand on this.

The Whole Website
This entire website needs an attitude change. It is full of immature children, and immature adults.
These combined equals the amount of crap that happens every day on these forums.
This needs to stop. It is time to pull out your dummies people, and time to grow up (me included).

If you are sick of the bickering, the above mentioned will need to be read and consumed.
You want to make L4Y a happier place, then be happy and grow up!

Some fair points there Spikey. I like to consider myself usually in the calm friendly and moderatly intelligent catergory catergery........cata................ya know what I mean.

But sometimes I feel like this forum dumbs us all down abit which is a shame as I have been using this forum on and off for years and even before I was a member I use to read the posts here. Or indeed play against many people here in Red Faction.

Now we are all getting older and it would be nice to carry on having more intelligent conversations for an older person who has grown up together using these forums so please give us a little bit of breathing space.

Your just saying that because your an admin . Everything is fine for you because we are like ants to you. You like to squash us with your admin privileges . I have also ran into you a few times on here where your attitude stinks! So everything is perfectly fine here huh?

Vibes, thank you very much for understanding where I come from, from my previous post.
Us adults do need a bit of breathing space, espically when it comes to the other type of members .

Great,

What should I say?

Great, now you know why I'm never in a good mood when i have to post something here. That and the fact that the majority here are brainless sheep who cant think for themselves as well as lack of any real intelligence to be found.

As far as censorship and staff deleting and removing things we have posted I vote for leave us to rant. The only people that should have the right to moderate the forum should be garner (as this is his site) and anyone else who can actually grow a brain, look at a situation with a neutral detached standpoint (as well as their own and everyone elses) and decide if moderation should be done. Although I would prefer that moderation would not be taken as lightly as it is often done with around here.

Although I have to say this: ahem, Censored is a biased piece of poopy who can't think for anyone else but himself and moderates others posts with extreme prejudice regardless of anyone elses views but his own and deletes or edits anything he deems 'inappropriate' for this forum without regard as to what the admin of the site may think. Censored also disregards the fact that deleting or moderating to maintain peace does not include:
1. Attaching a signature in the admin moderation account that contains tasteless pseudo witty comments that Censored may think is funny, but it is not. It's more of an insult to anyone that may have been moderated.
2. Moderating someones post telling them to calm down (or to keep the peace) and then promptly telling them that they are a hypocrite in the edit...
3. Removing posts entirely without notification of any kind.
4. TUing users without any notification of any kind.
5. Acting against another user with a biased point of view rather than trying to figure out how to solve the problem. Because it's better to just ban or delete the problem than to figuring out how to fix it.
6. I probably missed a bunch more.

There you have it, don't ask. looks like nostalgia brought me back right now, but it's sad to see what this place has become at the hands of biased ignorance. Not much left here than a collection of personality and mental disorders (if you know you dont fall into this category then im not talking to you. If you think you don't but your actions show otherwise then I am talking to you.) And to think that I had invested so much time and effort into this site in the past. tch' This place could have gone a lot further if there was more ambition set towards keeping the community together and encouraging competitive play than towards the fact you get the big ban stick when you donate enough money.

WE CANT DO THAT! IM GOING TO SMITE YOU WITH MY ADMIN POWER!

... The idea is honorable, but who watches the admins?

I've admittedly abused my power a bit ... cursed a couple of times, looked up some IP's out of personal curiosity ...

Oh and reviews ... i don't know how many times Ive looked at a file review and think to myself "would this be legitimate if i deleted it?" and be completely on the fence about whether im acting as a unbiased admin or personal experience ... then i leave it around for someone else to accept and it stays in the manager for about 2 weeks until i just accept/decline it myself.

To be honest, i don't really like being an admin ... you can't really act like yourself when you're an admin ...

I find it kind of funny. Everyone complains and moans about the crappy admins, etc. But the only "active" admins are myself, Frank, SkipRat and Assaultman (on rare occasion). I don't really see anyone else online, including Garner himself. So I can't help but feel like we are being attacked.

I don't see the level of difficulty in treating others with respect. Goes back to that saying, "Give respect, get respect." And I honor this statement. If members choose to treat my in a manner in which it's acceptable, I will do the same. If they choose to insult me, whether it be intelligence, attitude, or otherwise, then I will not react in a wonderful manner. I won't lose my temper, and I will push as hard as I can to be fair and not lose control; but some members want to push buttons as hard as they can, and when the admins (including myself) react, the admins get scrutinized for it. Doesn't make much sense to me.

I feel that the members can be a bit more discrete in their problems towards the admins; this site would be a much better place.

Not only that, but yes, I do disagree with many of the ways this site is run, whether it be the members, layout, admin actions, or otherwise, but I do not voice them, because as an admin, my job is to be one with the other admins; i.e. they make a decision, I back it up, and if I disagree, then I talk to that person somewhere else. And I expect the same visa versa.

Final words. IMO, if the members followed the rules, admins would have no need to take action against ANY member, no matter how big or little. Not only that, but we would have nothing else to do, lol.

You make a compelling point Killer. I agree with skiprat though. In D2K's post, it was not insulting. It was pointing out a few things that are true, which of what he said does not break the rules. Perhaps you should edit it back?
This is not a direct attack on you Killer. I just feel that D2K made a good point and I think that he should not have his post edited. Lets make this a forum website, not a goverment cover up huh?

There is one thing that annoy's me the most.
If a new member comes along and asks a simple question by creating a new thread, sometimes a few members or staff have been rude to that topic starter by posting something that is not really nessasary to the post.
It has happened in some case. I can point out that Red Frog has done this a few times.
Instead of a negative approach to new members, help them find what they are looking for.

It is bad practise to tell the new member to use to search function on the forum. You already have to assume they have already done that, even if they did not use it. Then you can link them to their criteria and score browie points. You might even recieve a "Thank You" which in my case, is self gratitude and made a member feel welcome here.

I can garantee that a few new members who get onto this website and look at the Red Faction section say "Jeez! everyone here is uptight. Better not get involved!".

If people start changing their responses and act mature, we might see a raise in Red Faction players (Even though the game is dead).
