Hello L4Y!
So what you recon?
I have a ventrilo server that i am currently paying for. At the moment, it has 50 slots and would like to share it with the community. You will be able to talk to your friends online while playing games, or talk and discuss in general.
First, i would like to hear peoples opinions, to see if it is a good idea or not. If it turns out that people would like to join the ventrilo server, i will happily post the ventrilo details.

First, some feedback and a vote on the poll, to see where this goes!

Thanks!

We used to have one, but when its popularity dived we got rid of it.
Those who follow the path of others lack the imagination or courage to create their own.
In my spare time I like to write game reviews for Game Revolution.

The only reason I haven't been using your servers is because my mics keep breaking on me and I'm a bit skeptical that buying an expensive one would fix my problem. I recently bought another cheap mic, so we'll see how long that lasts...

-waR'.se- I don't know who you are, where you are from, or what you want... But if you threaten my freedom... I'll kill you.

You can join without a mic, so long you notify me that you do not have one.
Anyways, 4 votes say it would be a great idea, So I will place my vent details on this post and my signature.

Be happy for you guys to join .

For those who are installing and setting up Ventrilo for the first time, here is a set of instructions for you to follow.

1) Download and install Ventrilo from here
Please make sure you select the correct download. You need the "Client program", not the "Server program". Make sure you click the correct link, corrisponding to your operating system.

2) Once downloaded and installed, launch Ventrilo.

3) Once open, you will notice at the top that 2 spaces are blank.
We need to set up a user name for you first
Click the arrow next to the blank user name field

4) On the next box, click the New button

5) Type your preferred name for Ventrilo. (We would refer if you used your L4Y account name, so that we can identify who you are.)
Click OK once your name is entered and click OK again on the previous box.

6) Next we need to setup the server you need to connect to.
The server drop down menu is blank and must contain a name for the server you want to connect to
Click the arrow opposite to the blank server drop down menu

7) This next box is where we will enter the information of the server you must connect to.
Click the New button under the drop down menu for select.

8) Type the name of the server you want in here for your reference. (The server name does not have to be the same as mine. If you already have another server that you connect to, ventrilo will create a list of servers with the names you put in and change the details of which server your connecting to.)

9) Place the following information corrisponding to the image above.
Once done, Click OK.
Now simply click the Connect button, and you are now connected to the ventrilo server.

SETTING UP YOUR MICROPHONE
When you have connected for the first time, Ventrilo is not going to reconise your microphone straight away. In some cases it will and you won't be required to set this up. If it has not, then follow these instructions carefully. First, click the Setup button on the right.

This is the microphone setup box.
First we need to setup how you want your microphone and speakers setup.

Outbut, Input device - Specifies what sound hardware to use.
This can be different depending on what hardware you have. If you own a microphone that connects to a pink audio jack at the back of your computer, you will need to use your default sound hardware that your PC speakers use.
If you have a USB microphone, these usually install their own drivers and act as seperate hardware on your computer. Make sure you select the correct microphone for your input, and your preferred output to hear others on ventrilo talk.
Please remember that if you are going to use PC speakers to hear people and your microphone is on voice activation, I would recommend using "Push To Talk" key instead. Everytime some speak's and your PC speakers emit sound, your microphone might pick it up and cause a loop back. This is quite annoying for those who are trying to speak but hear them selves with a delay.

Use Push To Talk Hotkey - Allows you to specify if you want to press a key to activate your microphone. If this option is not ticked, your microphone will be activated when you talk, but some settings will need to be played with to get the voice activate working.

Hotkey - Click in this box once then press a key or mouse button you wish to bind to activate your microphone for talking. If Use Push To Talk Hotkey is unticked, this box is greyed out because ventrilo assumes that you wish to use voice activation.

This section is all the settings for voice activation.
Silence time - specifies how long you need to be quiet for your microphone to stop transmitting.
Sensitivity - How loud you need to talk for your microphone to voice activate. This setting will need to be played around with.
Test with - This section will allow you to see how much noise your microphone picks up in the background like ambient noise, or static. Press the Monitor button to see some numbers scroll down the right blank box. The numbers represent the volume of noise. If you have "0" scrolling down, it means your microphone does not pick up ambient noise. If you speak, you will see the numbers go up. I tested mine, and mine is at 0 with no noise. When I speak, it goes up to 18. What I do now is set a number between 0 and 18 in the Sensitivity box. This means that if voice volume over 10, activate microphone.
Codec & Format - These are the quality codec you use to test your microphone in.
It is recommended for Windows user's to use Codec: GSM 6.10 and Format: 44 KHz, 16 bit.
It is recommended for Mac user's to use Codec: Speex and Format: 32 KHz, 16 bit, 10 Qlty.

Maybe you should edit your original post and include all of the server information so people won't have to scroll through the long list of instructions if they already know how to connect.

Edit: Looks like you beat me to it. I didn't even notice until I clicked "submit."
