Double poster!

Yep, tryed those too. Even after safe mode and anti spy, they didn't find anything, which can't be right cause my system is still freezing up. I cleaned out all the dust on my processor and everywhere else, but it hasn't helped either (in case my processor was heating up.)

Another thing. I got a blue screen, it said there was something wrong with my drivers?

this is looking hopeless
*looks at restore cd*

erm, maybe what you see there is normal?
Who says it isn't

Probably firefox calls home or somewhere else (depending on what crap you installed) each time you run it.

Establishing connections does barely have ANY relation to memory issues.
We are talking about Megabytes, if not Gigabytes here.

*rolleyes*

Im afraid firefox does not connect to this so called "Home" place you mention. Just like any Internet Explorer, firefox does exactly the same as Opera and Internet Explorer. Upon its launch, it will connect to either the home page you set, or About:Blank. The program does not connect to an IP address of any sort to establish a connection.

What I can see here is that he maybe under a possible hackers attack.

Naraku, there is a possible chance that this hacker might of wrote something to your computer that is untraceable. It is telling you computer to connect to his, allowing him to access what he can.

You have 2 options here
1) Restore your computer (Reformatting will get rid of everything but bare in mind, most things get left on your hard drive as a ghost file.)

2) Setup a strong firewall.

What? How in the hell are you supposed to connect to a website then?

What? IE is a specific piece of software, not a type of software. Perhaps you are thinking of a web browser.

FireFox should, like any web browser, connect to the website you are viewing.

I don't trust FireFox like most of the people who posted in this thread, but I'm not going to claim it's some sort of rootkit without proof.

naraku KOTB; that connection is :http. It's a website you're trying to view, that is the normal behavior of a web browser.

It's a well known fact that FireFox is an extremely resource-intensive browser and as such the only solution I can recommend is to move to a browser that is not as intensive, such as Opera or Chrome. Have you tried either of these yet?

What version of FireFox are you running?

I might be wrong but if Firefox or Opera don't connect to "their site", how does it know there is an update available?

I think you might of mistaken or mis-read what I put.

Froggy was claiming that when launching Firefox, it called up to an address. That is not so. Firefox does not establish a connection to the internet when its launched, unless you set an home page. The only time a IE connects to the internet is when you tell it to. In other words when you place a URL into the address bar.

Perhaps my wording of my previous post was incorrect.

In my opinion, I cannot see firefox being a problem for me. I have used it ever since I heard about it and it has not given me any trouble.

Perhaps all problems sometimes relate to user fault aswell. Considering on average, an idiot who knows nothing about computers except how to browse the internet, causes more crashes and virus problems than a pro like us.

Claiming? I was assuming it.

And I was assuming that basing on the fact that he MIGHT have some sort of trojan injection inside of Firefox and/or some plugin of Firefox itself which does that connecting.

(should have elaborated more in the first place)

But heres the problem now. I downloaded avast, since they have a built in rootkit remover.

But My computer crashed halfway through the install

So now, its half way installed to the point where my computer says its not on, and to the point where it doesnt let me run the uninstall, cause it says its not safe.

So its oon, and its not on, and i cant use the root key remover. what do i do now

Oh and to goober's reply, WRong screenshot. my bad. But I had the one of were it shows hes connected. Hes also connected to my usb receiver.

For Rootkit removal, try this then:

Sophos Anti-Rootkit

Sounds like they sent her a virus via email. Most likely a Trojan. It opens a back door into your PC for hackers to get in.

My suggestion is get an uninfected PC, and download >this< file (Creating an iso as I type). Burn it to CD (You will need to burn the image to CD.)

burning an ISO, in ImgBurn:
(Available FREE >here<)

1. Open ImgBurn (after installing)
2. "Write image file to disk"
3. Under Source, click the little first little folder, and browse to the iso file.
4. Hit the big "Write button

Once done, put it into your sisters PC, and boot from the CD. (Can take a while)
Leave the PC connected to the internet at this point, (Windows wont load so there shouldn't be a problem) this is essential to get the latest patches.

Once its loaded, it should start running the Anti-virus tool automatically. If not look for the icon on the desktop (its Knoppix btw) leave it to work its magic, after the test has been run turn the machine off, and then boot into windows. Download Avira >here<. This is a free anti-virus, updates regularly etc, as soon as its downloaded and installed run a virus check. (Avira does occasionally have a pop-up, but I don't mind it (no more than once per session))

>DOWNLOAD HERE<

ALTERNATIVELY: Reformat. Depending on how she has her files saved (hopefully on a different drive to the operating system (Partition? D:?)), you wont lose anything, however she may have her stuff saved on the same drive in which case its all gonna go bye bye. Format is easier, but you lose data.

Dude, just erase the HD.
Reinstall Windows.
Watch out what sites you visit in future.
